Hi, I just started with the Dragon Age toolset and I thought it would be more straight forward, but maybe It's just me who doesn't know enough about how to work with these things.
My idea when I downloaded it was to try editing the npc's inventory : like guards, important characters in the game, etc.. Like giving the redclife soldiers diferent helmets and weapons than the denerim ones, etc..
I think you guys understand what my intentions are with the toolset. Hope you guys can help me out with this, it's not about creating anything new just edditing the existing stuff.

Thanks in advance

It's pretty straightforward. Look in the creatures tab, find the appropriate character (some characters will have multiple instances, for different parts of the campaign). Edit their inventory and export. You are best to make a copy of the creature and modify that, rather than modifying the original. After exporting, find the UTC file in your addin's module folder and change the filename appropriately.

It doesn't show followers nor the guards and other more or less "important" npc's in the game, only shows random beasts and humanoids like bandits. And for some reason I can't make changes it says "read only copy - changes cannot be saved". Any help?

P.S : I've searched in all tabs, not just "creatures"

Make sure you set up your module to extend single player, as per the basic tutorial on the wiki. Every single creature in the game will then show up in the creature tab. Where they show up will depend on the specific creature. Some will have multiple different creature files for various different quests and stages of the game. For party members, their starting creature files (before they are recruited) are under _Global/Followers. Their resrefs are all prefaced gen00fl_. If you are looking for a specific character, try typing their name in the search bar. If nothing comes up, try looking in the appropriate folder for whatever major questline they are part of.

Ok, I did that now and everything appeared. Yet I tried to edit alistair and I couldn't change his face(everything else was in order I think); morrigan appeared as a naked bald man when I tried to edit her.

You can't make edits unless the asset is checked out first. You can load a new head morph in the appearance section.

For Morrigan, I suspect you are trying to edit zz_gen00fl_morrigan instead of gen00fl_morrigan.

You shouldn't be editing the original assets by the way, you should be creating new copies. Right click on the asset and choose duplicate, then give it a new name. You can manually edit the UTC filename after export so that it properly overrides the original.

And which export option do I choose? I tried changing the character "bhn100cr_father.utc"(Teyrn Bryce Cousland) and gave him a different outfit, but when I started the game he was exactly like before.

It won't work with a save game. Try it with starting a new game.

Once you have made your changes in the toolset, save the creature file, then select it in the file list right click on it and choose export without dependent resources. If you duplicated the original, it will probably end up in My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\modules\\Single Player\\override\\toolsetexport. Move it to your addin's module/override folder - My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Addins\\<addin name>\\module\\override. Change the filename as appropriate.

still not working, I've tried changing the original directly too but even that didn't changed anything at all. No errors or any other sort of problems at all either.

Works fine here:

You must be missing some step. Did you set the new equipment to actually be equipped? Can you see it in the preview of the creature editor? Try downloading this UTC. Put it in My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override. Delete any existing one you may have previously exported. Start a new game and see if the change appears.

"403 Forbidden" (sigh)...
But yeah I can see it on the preview, I really don't understand what am I supposed to be missing here.

Edit : Ok! I already figured it out, been messing with the toolset the whole day. Now one more question, is it possible to wear shield and 2h at the same time? Like having the shield on the back just for style, while using a greatsword for combat.

No, not with the shield as an actual shield. You could presumably make a custom armour model that included the shield though.

What was the solution to your issue by the way?
