The way Kaiden looks at male!shep when you talk to him on ship... ah what could have been.

S'ok though, gay!shep will just have to entertain himself with his model ship collection instead of getting any. <_<

Wouldn't that be a twist... The way you survive in the end is by not getting caught up and distracted by romance. Oh man that would be epic.

I'm really askin for it now...

Model ship collections, fish tanks, stereos, e-mails,..... When would BW find any time for same-sex romance?!

Hey!! Don't take this out on the Fish Tank. The Fish Tank is by far the best new feature in Mass Effect 2.

Hell, I'd trade all the romances for the Fish Tank if it came right down to it.

In the 22nd and 23rd centuries, mankind has travelled across the galaxy meeting strange and mysterious races...

Thane is gay even if he isn't. He's suave, a stylish dresser, cautiously believing the world could be a good place even if it has pooped all over him, and not afraid to show man cleavage. His romance with ladies is just so he can do their hair and meet their brothers.

Samara is already in a committed, polyamorous, lesbian relationship with a krogan matron and a very slight asari.

Even if the game never acknowledges it I shall know it's true.

I also believe there will be bisexual relationships for both genders, but Bioware hasn't told us yet, partly because it wants to choose how the media focuses on the game and keep the forums from bursting into flames.

It doesn't look promising at this point. Previously, a BW developer told us that they view FemShep/Liara relationship as a female/female relationship. But now Hudson is completely contradciting that statement. Perhaps Hudson himself is against inclusion of same-sex romance in ME2. DAO had a different team working on the project.

It is ludicrous to say that there is a small market for gay romance in games. Even leaving aside gay people who simply want gay romance, I think most reasonable people would support the inclusion of a gay option simply for fairness's sake. The "market" argument does not fly. I am a straight man with no particular interest in m/m romance, but if a game did include any romance at all, I would be more likely to buy a game that was even-handed than one which was exclusionary. The inclusion of an option I don't use doesn't bother me at all, but it would make me feel good to know that the game could bring the same joy to minorities that it brings to me.

If I really thought Bioware was excluding gay options out of a desire to please the heterofascists, I would boycott the game. Personally though, given their track record, and the ambiguity of the "confirmation," and the sheer awesomeness that is Mass Effect, I'm willing to take a "wait and see" approach.
Thanks.  It is nice to hear comments like this, especially given some of the hateful remarks that have been made in this thread.

Personally, I will buy ME2 whether or not it includes a gay male option.  But it would make the game so much better if it does.  I have seen plenty of heterosexual romances unfold in movies and books and video games, and have enjoyed them, even been moved by some of them... but when the romance is about people who love like I love, it makes a world of difference.

I agree, its definately nice to see a comment like that with so many hateful, bigoted opinions being peppered throughout these discussions.

And yeah, I'll buy and most probable enjoy Mass Effect 2 regardless of if theres a m/m romance interest or not. Its just good to be included occasionally, seeing as the rare few gay characters in media are often sexless caricatures of real people. Be good to have a romance subplot I'm more emotionally invested in.

This thread... le sigh.

It is apparently too much to ask to be the gay saviour of the galaxy. :(

The F/F is more popular, at least here in the forum, out in the world of majority I do not know.

As someone said earlier, perhaps they should make a DLC out of gay relationships, it would be a good way to truely measure the interest beyond these forums for such a thing.
Romances require a lot of voice work of several cast members in order to feel authentic. It would be a nice experiment, but I don't think it's a feasible option.
Nice, where it not for one simple rebuttal.
Making a skin color, takes far less time and effort that making up a whole gay romance story, throughout a whole trilogy.
Also, you said "remove" skin shades etc, gay romance according to Bioware was never even IN the game.
So by using an argument like that we could argue ad infinitum.
The point still stands that if you're using the "lack of interest argument" that you need to defend it at all angles. Dark skin pigments does not cost a lot of development time, no, but it does cost some. Where do you draw the line between development cost and interest among players?

For example animating the female model for Shepard was not easy or cheap. Again, if we're going to make a case for Bioware cutting out content due to lack of interest, we need to consider that the Female Shepard option took a LOAD of development time for considerably less interest than the Male Shepard. Same for the romance options presented to female Shepard, which will be experienced by even fewer players. Do you really think the percentage of people who romance Jacob or Thane is going to greatly exceed the number of homosexuals in game? Because I for one really doubt it. So why include those options and not homosexual ones, especially when if they go the "Bi" route they don't even have to fully design new relationships, just add on a few extra dialogues.
END QUOTE.
I have to disagree on this point. I really doubt that Male Shep has more people play him then Femshep, simply because of how VASTLY superior the voice acting was in Femshep. I do agree that interest in Jacob will definitely be less then the amount of gay gamers, or even the amount of Femshep players that would like to see her and Tali get together so yeah...

- I think the Normandy bathrooms should have been cut out. It would have saved on more "Pew Pew" development time.

- Also, a cook - we should just have a door that says "Kitchen". This cuts out on more "AWSOME ACTION" time.

----

Or, the real argument is - this isn't "MY" problem, so I don't care about other groups of people. So, I'm going to come up with a reason and state it as fact and think it sounds logical.

-----

- Let's cut out descriptions of planets we can't land on.

- Let's cut more than one shopkeer. You just buy stuff from the guy on the Normandy.

- Let's cut out model ships and fish tanks (already mentioned).

-----

If people want to say "I don't care that a gay character is left out. Tough cookies for you losers." Be men (or women) and say that. Don't make up arguments that mask your apathy (or phobia).

Truth, if they "wanted" to, they had plenty of time to include a valuable market group. Gay people play video games.. I know it's shocking. And the first developer that markets to them, will get their money.. and the rest will lose out.

It doesn't matter "how much". Losing a market is bad business.

I will purchase Bioware games until they stop being fun. I love Mass Effect - but I was dismayed that this "Shepard is our character" comment is used ONLY to defend the no M/M or F/F argument. It's poor and I hope it's not a trend.

I don't see the issue with Jacob. Then again, I often think people try to -look- for ways to be offended. Jacob is cool. If his characterization is done right, I would definitely do a homosexual romance with the character if it's an option.

Maybe, I guess I'm just sensitive to the fact that there's only one other major black character in the series.  Of course, I like to think that Ashley is just a light skinned African-Aliancean.  It seems that there should be more characters of color before starting to "stack."

Still, if there's a bisexual romance, I imagine he's the most likely.

I thought Jacob at first when I thought bisexual romance option.  They already did the the non-human bisexual assassin thing in DA:O.  Though Thane and Zevran seem to have waaay different personalities.

aww... no m/m romance, still... well, guess my gay shepard character will have to be alone again this episode.... but at least my lezzy one gets to be with the sweet redheaded yeoman...

still unfair though...

as cool as it will be romancing 7 new characters, driving me to playing through the game at least seven times, there should have been some manlove possible...

it's a dim, colorless future without the gays... bioware should know that...
