I understand that she wasn't mentioned until DA2(by Leandra who is Revka Amell's cousin)  but why not at least show her face in the Mage's Origin story? It would of been a lot better looking back at it and then who is the mage warden's father? Another mage or maybe to spruce things up a bit, maybe he was Templar...dun dun dunnnnn. Also, The Mage Warden is no the Hero of Ferelden and he didn't bother to track down his mother that he hasn't seen since birth? C'mon Bioware, don't drop off this interesting story in a ditch.

How would they show the mother? The Warden did not know their mother at all. being taken away as a baby and what not.

Revka's children were taken, but we don't know at what age. I'd assume it was as young boys and girls, given the presence of young children at the Circles of Magi.

I assume it was whenever their magic became obvious. Possibly as young boys and girls, in fact probably then with the younger ones since the Templars and parents were watching out for it by this point. With the eldest? Possibly not until their early teens, I think. Maybe not until they were Bethany's age, though I tend to doubt that quite strongly.

Maybe after at the ceremony, you see a mysterious women and ask who she is and with further inquiry, she announces she is your mother Revka Amell.

Wouldn't cousin Revka be a man? Amell is the family name, mage warden is an Amell. Unless of course she was unmarried, which could be plausible if there was only one child, but more than one, I guess they would be married.

When Bioware created DAO, they didn't have anything in mind for the human mage's background. At least originally, only the nobility in Ferelden are suppose to have last names, so only the human and dwarf noble were to have last names. However Bioware if had a name space for last names, they had to fill the name space for all origins. Thus that's human mage ended up with the "Amell" last name, which then would probably mean they are a noble family. Bioware did go on to with making the Amells a noble family in DA2.

I know some stories where, in their society, a person takes on whichever family name is more "noble" or well-known or whatever.

Human or elf, the character from the Magi Origin would have been taken away from their family at a relatively young age. Jowan said he came to the Circle when he was 5 or 6, and the Magi Origin character came about a year after. Jowan tells a female Warden that he's always thought of her as a sister, so I would assume that they are around the same age, or maybe that Jowan's a little older.
I'm also pretty sure that it was mentioned/suggested somewhere that Jowan and the Magi Origin character are about the same age, saying something about them growing up together or something.
