I'm running through the series again, but I'd like to make some new variables. I know romances aren't worth much in ME3, but I think I just locked myself into a relationship with Ashley...

What I'd like to know is, which would deliver more new content? Romancing Ashley or saving Kaidan on Virmire?

This is for a male Shepard, if you needed to know.

They are both super bland tbh.

i think kaiden has more content in ME3 than ash (and he actually interacts with other crewmen)

but this is still true:

This, Ash is duller than a piece of cardboard in ME3.

Kaidan's not bland if you romance him, and Ashley just becomes a huge b*tch.

If you really want to romance Ashley just pick her, Kaidan probably wont mean much to you if you don't romance him, but he's a great right hand man for Shepard.

Kaidan has more dialog in ME3. Ashley is kinda useless IMO. I use to choose ash instead of Kaidan cause Kaidan always annoyed me, but after ME3 Kaidan ends up being more interesting. Ash never does anything of importance after ME1. Kaidan... well... you'll see.

Pick whomever you want. If you headcanon a lot stuff for your characters beyond the stuff you see on screen, Ash works quite well, same for Kaidan.
As I said: you need to headcanon a lot of stuff, especially since ME3 is -really- unfair towards both. Least content of any "big" romance (spanning three games).

tbh the only reason I pick Ashley over Kaidan is because she is a girl and has boobs. They really are both a waste of space.

Ashley turned to ash. She is practically useless and questions you all the time - not to mention her questionable morals in ME:1. Kaidan is more sympathetic and is far more of a valuable asset/has a much better personality than Ashley.

For me:  Depends upon Shepard's Gender.  If male, then Ash, if Female, Kaidan.  Only once did a male Shepard save Kaidan, and that was to get Tali's romance in ME 2.

May have a Femshep save Ash, too, to get Thane's romance, but haven't decided yet.

To the OP, if romances aren't worth much as you say, why even bother?

And to tickle267, xlegionx, and conjmk. If you can't appreciate Ashley for who she is, you haven't made an effort to get to know her really.

She HAD great character in ME1. She was a character with conviction, and I romanced her in my first playthrough. But in ME3 she became Jersey Shore-ified, which goes against her character, and pretty much the only significant conversations you have with her amount to "I can't believe you're not with Cerberus anymore" which was stupid.

If you romance Ash and take her on missions such as the Tuchanka bomb mission, the Priority: Rannoch missions, Cronos station, and Priority: Earth, she will say very interesting things. The Citadel DLC also gave her a lot of good lines if you take her on the different missions. I only play on Insanity, and she's really useful as a squadmate. I wouldn't change Ash for any of the other LI's after all she said in the aforementioned missions.

I actually like Ash in ME1 Watching Ash in ME3 disappointed me greatly since all of her convictions seem to disappear. Kaidan seems to remain the same throughout 3 games. Content-wise, Kaidan is benefited more than Ash. It's up to you though.

uhh.. i did appreciate her, in fact until ME3 came out she was my default romance option who i always stayed loyal to. but by the time i got to the coup in ME3 i'd had enough of her and went back to ME1 to do a playthrough with a romanced Liara.

I find both of them bland TBH but a romanced ash gives the most content

Ashley just kinda sits in the Observation deck once you get her back while Kaidan will occasionally interact with the other crew members, so...
If you're looking for more content I'd keep Kaidan around; though I don't find either of them that interesting compared to the others.

That's why I'm using headcanon to add more fluff for Ashley. ;)

It's up to you OP. I loved finally getting to properly romance Kaidan in ME3. But if the romances aren't worth it to you then just pick whomever you like more

If your "male" Shepard is gay and wants to romance, then Kaidan is your man. Way more interesting then Cortez. Especially if you have Kaidan in your party. The final battle is a VERY touching scene.

But I gotta tell you, the romance scenes (expect maybe femShep and Garrus) are crap. I mean, you get scenes but they are few and far in-between. Like can someone tell me why my LI isn't living in my quarters on the ship? I'd understand if they asked me and I said no.. but nothing.

Kaidan, there's enough females on the Normandy, and he has his shirt off in th hospital room, it tied in more with role playing, unlike ashley where she had her whole damn wardrobe on

Ash had a two-piece on, if you look carefully you see her stomach.

I also liked her drunk scene.

EDIT:  As to why the LI isn't bunking in your qtrs on the Normandy, there IS such a thing as "breach of protocol", which Kaidan brought up in ME1.  At least for Kaidan, Ash, Cortez, Samantha.  Liara's just too busy.

She really does need a few kids.
