There are a lot of excellent shotguns. My favorites, in no particular order:

Wraith
Claymore
Reegar
Piranha
Raider
GPS

I wanted to have the Crusader on that list, since it deals great damage, but it's not too good without stagger abilities. Other than the fire delay, which is manageable on consoles, it's a very powerful weapon.

EDIT: As a side note, the Claymore is an ugly-looking weapon though.

3 or 4 shot Raider has got to be one of the most efficient damage dealers in the game. And it's actually quite capable up to mid range, doesn't have weird fire delays like the wraith (or pansy gold electroplating), and just feels thuggish, like a shotgun should.

For all of you saying wraith or claymore are better at long range, well, yes, but if you want to play from long range why not go for a sniper or crusader then? We're talking shotguns here, you're missing most of the fun if you're not doing your virtual mayhem up close and personal.

Indeed. Raider is the best shotgun in this game if you can deal with the weight (which is moderate) and spread (which only makes things more exciting).

And the Wraith has no fire delay whatsoever. It's the easiest shotgun to get headshot with by far. It just fires really slowly.

As someone who can't use a shotgun to save their life... (I only got my shotgun mastery very recently, like a week or so ago).

GPS is obviously a safe-bet - it was the first weapon I used when moving up to gold from silver.

Piranha is easy enough - as it the Wraith. My latest favourite is the Crusader - the only shotgun I like to use if I use one at all.

I can't even Claymore effectively. Cue derisive laughter...
