This month's challenge is "Oldschool":

Anything from 0e (chainmail, blackmoor, greyhawk, etc suppliments), Judges Guild, Content from Articles from gaming magazines (such has White Dwarf, Dungeon, Dragon, Polyherdron, The Stragegic Review, The Oerth Journal), Basic/Expert/Companion/Master/Immortal Rules, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 1e and 2e, the Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon, DnD Toys/Figurines/Boardgames and anything else that didnt make it into 3.0. Could also be things based off earlier version artwork, say 1st edition such-and-such monster, things from illutrations by classic artists like Erol Otus, Jeff Dee, and the rest...

This theme was suggested by Carcerian.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by July 1st, 2013 at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here.
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for July's theme.
Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

<falls over backward...>

I think that's the single shortest post you've ever made, dear dog =)
Not wrong, of course, but hideously short. Perhaps you could loan Big Purple a brick?

@Rolo, with 20+ modules, etcetera on the go I am amazed PHOD had the time to write that much (^_^). (108 placeables left to fix at time of posting). Also, why not do that creature (the BB) I sent you details of (a good while ago now)  for this challenge, those stats were for AD&D 1e you know.

I'm confused, I thought technomancy won in June?.

The Amethyst Dragon wrote...

Just a few days left to vote. Voting is close, here's the current standings:

6 votes:
Technomancy

4 votes:
Arcane Space Stuff
Surprise Me
Oldschool

2 votes:
Why So Serious?
The art of deception - 2d in a 3d world

1 vote:
Dark Sun
Dr. Who

Everything has at least one vote this month, so there won't be anything dropping off the poll for next month.

Final vote totals in the June poll finished with 8 votes for Oldschool and 7 votes for Technomancy (complete final votes in comments after the poll).

Often a few people will vote at the end of the month, and the quoted numbers were from 2-3 days before the end of the voting period.

@AD, what surprised me was that during a seven day period during the middle of the month everything had at least one vote cast which I found very odd.

Over the last (almost) 3 years this thing has been running, I've found it is actually quite common for every option to pick up at least one vote each month. How long have "Arcane Space" and "Surprise Me" have been lingering on the list?
:P

What I was talking about was that there wasn't a single one that didn't have a vote. At least in recent months there have been 3 or more (I think) with zero votes. BTW as far as I can remember arcane space has had at least 3 votes every month (and I can guarantee at least one vote for it until either it makes it or my hands drop off(^_^)).

I've been keeping elementals up due to the fact I am a Warcraft fan and love what they do with the elementals in that game

Anywho, I'm gonna pre-emptively request the Flumph because of the aformentioned Bogleech link

Is anyone actually making anything for this? If not I have details for a humanoid creature that someone may be interested in trying. When first encountered they appear to be a wizened old man. Normal damage does just that, it damages them. Magical damage on the other hand gives the creature hit points. As they gain hit points so their appearance changes - they get younger to a limit of around 18 years old in appearance. Their attack is special in that they claw for 1d4 damage and a successful hit paralyses their victim. Having a cruel streak they prefer to go around a party paralysing their victims in turn. Paralysation lasts for 2d4 rounds. Anyone think they can create this for nwn?

I'm going to start with a couple of items based on the D&D cartoon:
- a cloak that when worn provides invisibility (prefab)
- a faintly glowing green quarterstaff (weapon model)

I may get inspired to make something else as the month goes on.

Awesome!  Prefabs are great.

Novice-made scripts can be cool, too, if you want to throw one or more in.  Remember, you can always ask questions around here if there's something you want to know. :)

Just an Idea:

Swanmay

Posted Image

Swanmays are human females who can assume swan form. In human form, swanmays are indistinguishable from other people. Swanmays may be recognized by a feather token, feathered garment, or signet ring. Such items are transformed into part of the swans' plumage or worn on a leg.

"Ere's what I know o' them

(Lesser Common) Bomb Beast (1st ed AD&D rules)

Frequency: Rare
Number Appearing: 2 - 8
Armour Class: 9
Movement Rate: 24”
Hit Dice: ½ (1D4)
Percent in Lair: Nil
Treasure Type: Nil
Number of Attacks: Nil (Special)
Damage per Attack: Special
Special Defence: Nil
Magic Resistance: Standard
Intelligence: 1
Alignment: Neutral
Size: Small (3 – 12 inches Diameter)
Psionics: Nil

Bomb Beasts appear to be small furry globular animals. They are actually magical beasts, which were initially developed by a paranoid mage to act as guards for the mage’s treasure. These creatures are cold blooded and are attracted to anything that is warmer than the ambient temperature of their surroundings. They tend to be found in small groups, which huddle together for warmth. They are generally found in dark confined spaces such as chests, armoires and crates. Failing this they will be found in any nook or cranny that they can squeeze into, such as a crack in the wall or under the stairs. This is an attempt by the creatures to escape from drafts and air currents, which might cool them. These beasts are also very excitable which can have disastrous consequences for any creature that disturbs them.

Bomb Beasts breed by fission. That is they continue to grow until they reach twelve inches or so in diameter, when they split into two equal halves. In order for them to split they need a source of heat that is between one and five degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the ambient temperature. However Bomb Beasts can only distinguish if something is warmer or colder than them, not if it is in the required range. As Bomb Beasts may have achieved fissionable size years, decades or even, in exceptional circumstances, centuries ago they do tend to get somewhat over-excited when any heat source presents itself. When a Bomb Beast is in a highly excited state a number of changes occur.

1. They go from being in a torpid dormant condition to being able to move at incredible speed for such a small creature. Being very single-minded in their desire to breed, they use this speed to chase and then get as close as they can to whatever source of heat they have found.
2. As their excitement mounts complex chemical reactions within their bodies are initiated. The first external sign of this is that once a minute they emit a loud noise that sounds like “Tick”.
3. Once a Bomb Beast starts ticking it is doomed, for it means that an unstoppable chain reaction has started. This chain reaction can take anywhere between one and four minutes before its inevitable conclusion. When the chain reaction reaches its conclusion the poor Bomb Beast explodes doing between one and six points of damage to everything within a two-metre radius centred on the beast.

The time it takes for Bomb Beasts to achieve breeding size is very variable. When they are first created by a mage they are about the same size as a tennis ball.

As can be seen from the above, when Bomb Beasts are involved it can prove somewhat hazardous to the health of low level characters when chests and other containers are opened.

I'll be makin' a few modi-*fications*, if ye ken. I'll be usin tha Gelatinous Cube fer startin' as I don't want nae rigid play ball. So it's skin & bones agin, and some *unigue* animations, eh?

I'll be makin' four sizes, as well, an' they'll behave summat like jellies - when they explode, they create 4 smaller ones... exceptin' the smallest o' course.

And I'll be leavin' a few in tha wizard's favorite study, youdamnbetcha!

Lock *me* outta me own Forge, will 'e?
Heh.
Time fer what went around ta come back ta roost, if ye ken.

Cestus, what is the source of the Bomb Beast? I've playing OD&D and AD&D since 1977 and have never heard of them before. And to think I knew everything about AD&D. . ..

Update:

OD&D and AD&D Prefabs for NWN
Prefab NPCs, magic items, and monsters for NWN that either follow or are inspired by the OD&D (Whitebox) or AD&D 1st edition rules.
Here are the planned contents so far:
  • NPCs from the AD&D Rogue's Gallery (Bigby, Mordenkainen, etc.)
  • AD&D magic items, e.g. Arrow of Slaying, Giant Slaying Sword, Plate Mail, etc.
  • AD&D Monster leaders for Goblins, Kobolds, Hobgoblins, etc.
  • OD&D surprises, viz. Did you know that ALL creatures encountered in the Underworld (not Underdark, but Underworld) can see in the dark? Did you also know that according to the Chainmail Fantasy Supplement, Wizards will cast a spell of darkness over the battlefield rendering everyone unable to see except for the monsters on his side?

@Grymlorde The details for the BB came from me. It is a magical beast that I had the misfortune to run into on my very first pnp adventure. It is not an official creature but (IMO) one of the best DM creations I ever came across. It was created for 1e AD&D. I persuaded the person who created it to write up the details some years back. The same details that Cestus has now got his hands on. To make it absolutely clear, all I did was to tidy the details up and type them into a pc. Hope that clears it up for you.

<opening grimiores...>

Fwiw, I do believe there was a similar beastie somewhere in the Arduin Grimiores, though I don't have access to them at the moment.

I'm hoping to break off enough time to properly script these cuddle puppies, too: heat-seeking flocking behavior, pop-up appearance from containers, reproductive behaviors...
