Only the most invertebrate punster could make such a hard shell. I guess we're all a little nautilus...

So, guess who just spend several hours last night animating a certain snail model, only to discover at the end that he'd forgotten to ResetXForm on 4 parts, so they ended up in the wrong positions in at least 1/3 of the animations?
Instant headache. I'll be reanimating the entire thing tomorrow night...I ain't touching gmax today.

Flumph might not come until after June! It's on-topic bad news! Flumph of course takes a while (and I really want it to look good!) and I am already juggling a lot of other things. So things may be slow in that department! No pix, yet!

As for you ... YOU POOR DWAGON! Reset XForm is the most important thing EVAR, it's right there in the modeling bible, verse 16.
Edit:
I need to stop saying I am making something, because when it comes slow, I feel bad!

I reset the xform all the time on things. Just forgot that I'd rotated and repositioned the flail stalks before I started animating. *sigh*dusty.lane wrote...

Oh, well. A few hours working at the treadmill desk tonight will give me the time to redo all the animations. I've done them all once, so a 2nd time should go a little faster (the walk and run animations are actually the hardest, to get a convincing "ripple" movement). And yes, it is surprisingly easy to work with gmax while walking 3 mph.
The D&D cartoon cloak prefab will be very easy, and the quarterstaff (model and prefab) will be easy as well. I've already got a staff model from my Reforged project I can retexture, and I'll be whipping up a small misc. inventory icon and prefab stuff so a wielder can resize it via unique power (to save on inventory space & weight carried when it's not wielded).

Now to get started on the D&D cartoon items.
Oh, and since the model work was already done, I did a little resize and recolor. Not really old school, but it does rely on the flail snail as a supermodel for the animations, so I'm tossing it in with this month's stuff...

<oooh! look, boss! rainbow snails! from the bay of stones!>
Hmmm? Oh, yes. Very pretty.
<rainbow snails! rainbow snails! rainbow snails!>
Yes, yes, yes.
<get'em! get me some rainbow snails, boss! get'em get'em get'em!>
I'm reading here, bird... <*bright raven joy transforms into thunderous raven scowl*>
<you have ignored me for *months* and now you are ignoring *rainbow snails*?!>
Er, that's not what...
<*deep stormy voice* you. will. get. me. rainbow. snails. problem?>
Nono no! Was just about to do that!

My flail snail (and the rainbow snail) shows up perfectly in the toolset...but not in the game.
I can plop down one of these critters (or multiple), and they show up just fine in the toolset in my test module (where I took my latest screenshots, showing idle animation and everything). I save, launch my test module as either a player or a DM, and the creatures just aren't there. No tab highlight, no attacks on me when they're set to hostile, no creatures in the area as far as the DM client is concerned, nothing spawning from DM creature palette. Nothing. Nada.
I've checked the model for parts are rendered or not, tried turning off all shadows, tried an animation-free version, tried setting to non-hostile factions, removed and re-added my test hak, and made multiple adjustments to the lines in appearance.2da. I'm out of ideas. Fat lot of good a great model does if a builder places it into a module and it just ceases to exist when the game runs.
Anyone else ever seen or heard of this happening before? And if so, found a way to fix it?

I did have that happen before, though I don't remember which creature.
I vaguely remember it having something to do with textures. They were the wrong dimensions or I tried something tricky with txi...
Come to think of it, my gynoculus had this peekaboo problem, too... But here was a problem with more than 4 bones on a few vertices. Have you looked at the skin weights in the weight table?
Try making a static placeable without the skin modifier and see if that renders. If it does, you're looking at too many bones or too many bones per vertice.

So let me know if you think that he is suitable for this challenge or not. If he would be not, I'll include him in any other place....

Disclosure: While I have played OD&D, AD&D, AD&D 2nd edition, and 3rd edition -- my favorite version is AD&D 2nd edition.
Edit: After looking at AD's post, I noticed that AD&D 2nd edition is included in the challenge.

@ AD: a couple corrections for the first page list... Sorry for the confusion.
The Bomb Beast is a collaboration with Tarot Redhand.
The Runequest Dragon Snail by Cestus Dei will be done, but not this month :-/

Finally I have to remove the few skin parts that I had used; Because after testing, that don't look well with some animations; And I don't have enought knowledge and experience with skins to fix that. I hope that won't be too much disapointed....
