I would support spiders if they were cute.  Perhaps a little pet for our castle or something.

Plus it's better in the way that it's better to be punched in the stomach than the face. Not much of an improvement.

 Sadly giant spiders are needed as they prey on roaches of all sizes. (semi confirmed rumor)

Why would it have to be a "giant" anything? Some of the most dangerous beings (such as bacteria and viruses) are tiny.
