It's DRAGON AGE! :)

But dragon is female also. They should show a drake on the front and a dragon on the back of the cover.

Yup, god forbid some people want equality with gender in media.

This is still insignificant. I do not ask Bioware to put a black guy or a a black woman on the box, ( as long as I can play one ) while I''m tired of white people always on the cover. Did you ever see a black hero on the cover in Bioware's game ? No. Do you see me complaining to Bioware about how it neglected a part of its fanbase ? No . Do you see me crying like a little girl ? No.  Because, I know what is most important. They allow me to play what I want and what I am. If they do that one day, I'll be happy, If they don't, I don't care.

Now, I hope that Bioware won't put anybody on the cover, so you all, male and female gamers can shut up.

It's critical legal studies all over again.

Make the box bloody and dragony!
Slap on a Flemeth!

Then push out some kick arse trailers, showing several custom characters of both genders and different colours.

That's what I would like. Thank you! :)

I'd be more than happy for them to stick with the DA2 blood dragon outlining the characters, only with no protagonist, just outlines. What more do you need on the cover? I just want them to include the ability to play as a female PC (the same person/story and not as some sidekick twit) in the marketing.

Pretty much. DA:O didn't, my collector's editions of ME2 and ME3 didn't. I think this works just fine.

They use the arguments that focus groups respond better to male characters on the box. This video that came out today illustrates some of the issues with basing things off focus groups.

There's a major problem outside of just the cherry picking of data, which is the worst sin of market research, and unscientific samplings (fratboys, 12 year old boys, whomever happens to be at a mall on a Saturday afternoon and is willing to stop and do a survey) -

and that's the people being interviewed, like that pesky quantum phenomenom, change when being observed.

Focus groups often end up being filled by people who WANT to be in them, and that usually includes people who have done them before.  Veterans become too caught up in the minutia of the surveys and what they grow to consider to be "more important" details than what the average person would care about, kind of like how political pundits and the beltway media are so caught up in how they do things and how Washington works that they actually become some of the worst people to analyze what is actually happening, let alone what is possible.

Random people are bad beyond just how unscientific such market research is almost always conducted.  Two bad things happen with random stopped people:
1 - they rush the answers as they just want to be done with the survey, often leaving most of the survey barely answered if answered at all
2 - they mistakeningly think that you, the researcher / research company, are the creators of the thing being reviewed / tested, and they try to give you answers that will be nicer to you than what they really think

....

And all that is ignoring the fact that, at best, only about two-thirds of all such surveys are legitimate and not made up by the field researchers as they are often paid per survey.

It's really sad the sexism we get in the gaming industry. Why are there no female soilders at COD I always wondered?Anyways I play World of Warcraft and there are tons of female gamers and thankfully that is the most non-sexist game I have ever played.Women have an equal role in everything there,50% male NPC,50% female NPC.There are female soilders and there are male cooks.Even the original cover shows a female.Everything is in perfect balance I think.I have also noticed that most of the female gamers that play WoW are Role-players,it's when you actually put story in your character and talk and act like your character should and not just strict combat.I enjoy playing with women equally as with men,and suprisingly enough, the Role-Play community is non-sexist and nobody will throw offensive female puns at them.I think Dragon Age is also non-sexist in a way,but I think WoW is the most perfect non-sexist example of a major videogame.

Another great example is Portal.Female protagonist and female antagonist.

So now I'm crying like a little girl because I made a valid complain? Wow, aren't you ignorant and stereotypical.

You also missed the part where I bluntly stated I would prefer a cover that featured no protagonists over all, due to DAI being an RPG.  That was one of my main beefs about DA2, where you had normal Hawke for the covers and also for the first part of your playthrough, which I really disliked.

Reading comprehension, what is it.

Ditto. Why didn't they put both on? That's showing favoritism towards their male fanbase by putting Sheploo on the front while femshep is forgotten on the backside.

Exactly.  I do 3-4 focus groups per year, some of them under an assumed name, specifically because I value my opinions more than I value other people's opinions, so I work to have my opinions have greater weight.

Women will never be equal to men. It's because you're better than us, dimonds are a girl's best friend, man's best friend is a dog. :? you're delicate, precious and perfect. That's why I think it's very important that you all stay inside, if you could cook and clean while you're there, that'd be great. You're better at that than us after all.

Because having two characters taking about as much spotlight on a game cover is usually a sign of a Co-op game.

Neverwinter Nights is the best cover by Bioware to yet.

Of course, if it was altered so that MShep was in front of FemShep people'd probably be complaining that they were showing favoritism to him.

Almost all of those have a slightly larger more player controlled character and a small sidekick.

Carrying Sheploo in a backpack is intriguing though.

I'm pretty sure that sounded very sweet in your head, but the last guy that called me delicate got his nose broken. He wasn't being nice about it, he asked me why I was occupying the bench press at the gym when there was "less delicate" people that needed to use it for real. If women were delicate you can bet your money that we wouldn't be the one's carrying & birthing children, nuff said. And I know a number of guys who are a lot better at cleaning & cooking than I am, especially on the cleaning part. Patriarchy & sexism not only puts down women, but men who like to do or are good at tasks/hobbies deemed "feminine" or "womanly", such as cooking & cleaning.
