but they abandoned it in favor of some meh boxart

The original must have failed in focus testing or something. Oh well, at least the female protagonist remained.

The only women on covers that I've seen- you know the ones that people can actually tell that they are women-  are some sort of alien creatures. Not human women. There are several examples in this thread a few pages back.

That doesn't count because that game is indefinitely postponed. Probably for the best though, Nova is an a-hole, I can't believe she tried to trick Jim into killing Gabe.

Irrational Games put a dudebro on the cover of Bioshock Infinite to get more sales, fans bought it up and the game was critically lauded. If they had received negative flak for it, they could have defended themselves. It happened, its over, they don't care if you think it was wrong. Get over it.

Oh and thanks for reminding me of the Bioshock cover.  

They could have done something so much more creative and beautiful with the whole floating city thing.
 

I'm dismissive because the idea of a set protagonist on the cover/in trailers/etc. in an RPG series based around creating your own character and HAVING no set protagonist is incredibly stupid, for lack of a better term.

It is part of the problem I have with DA2 (creating a game where we were supposed to enjoy playing Hawke, an uber-cool badass instead of trying to allow a much wider variety of characters to play) and is a transgression against the game, regardless of if you have a male, female or being that reproduces by budding asexually... it gives us a character that we are told is the "right" type of character to play. Which is counter to the entire point and experience.

And yes, they could have done a shot of the wonderfully amazing city the game took place in... a great example of what a cover without a protag. But, given that Bioshock DOES have a set protagonist, I don't see the problem with having said protag on the cover... but it was hardly informative of any of the game's experience other than the fact that you have a gun in the game.

you know when I saw thread title I thought sure why not... now I'm not sure... you know what why not as long as it is done because that was the nicest cover.

on the whole equality thing let me tell you a story when I in middle school on my home I jumped by 3 guys when I got called the cops they couldn't do anything because I didn't have any names. so I reported to the school next called to the office.
you think it was because they wanted to talk me about what happened right? wrong apparently being grumpy is a threatening act, note this was before 9/11 and all these school shootings, I walk in to find the vice principal wants talk to me about two girls who said I threaten them, at the time I had never even raised my voice to a female even after I had not. I hadn't ever hit anyone at all.

it didn't take long for things to get worked out once it became clear I haven't threatened them. oh and the 3 guys who jumped me after we found them you know what happened? nothing even though one had a record. that was far from the last time I got jumped. but none of the times did anyone act as quickly as when I "threatened" those girls. you want equality let me know if you finds any let me know so I can laugh.

Those weren't covers. Well, they weren't game covers. 

Those were the various covers of GameInformer that came out with the reveal of Bioshock infinite back in... 2011, I think? They were magazine covers, not game covers.
