I bought the game about two years ago. Was surprised. It's an exact opposite of the modern paradigm where cheap and cheesy tricks complement uninspired gameplay. Not EYE tho. Boy does EYE not hold one's hand.

Yet an immersive experience. A game of true unease, space insanity and of still nightmares. Very art-house, yet the gameplay's really deep, with much originality and effort to it (and effort is also needed on behalf of the player).

Now, I today saw the game's rated rather low on metacritic, and that the reviews are way off mark. They haven't found out how to approach a game that's more an artful experience, and intentionally not one that's happy or easy or "accessible" (simplistic). People don't understand that this *is* twisted dystopia we're delling with here. A crude sensation isn't indicative of bad quality. It's a really relevant and I might say "deep" facet of life. If players are fearful of it, it's their loss and their blindfold.

Or maybe I'm wrong? Are there really so many lows to the game as to rate it a 50 out of 100? What are they? I'd really like to hear another's opinion of the game I've come to regard as a (knowingly crude) masterpiece.

I tried it out on the recommendation of a friend who made it sound awesome. I found it difficult to learn the controls, had no idea what was going on or where I was supposed to go, and combat felt really clunky and unresponsive. Not to mention, I didn't care for how the game looked. Unfortunately, that meant I put the game down very quickly.

I bought it based on recommendations when it first came out.  I was hugely dissappointed as the game just felt broken.  Abilities didn't work like they were supposed to.  Enemies could hear you from the other side of the map (so if you fired a gun expect a long drawn out fight with every enemy, not just the ones in ear shot) the whole thing just ended up feeling slow with one thing bogging down the next till I just gave up on it.

Points taken. Have no idea as to the reasons I didn't have these issues.

It's certainly not Deus Ex smooth. But my do I love what they wanted to express!...

Tho the abilities thing and bugs have been taken care of, I'd argue that it's supposed to feel slow, and that enemies 500m away *should* hear your shots, especially as they're augmented. Their communication *is* certainly such that even ones who are behind many buildings should be made aware (tho I personally don't remember that happening - + silencers do work perfect). Real-life firefights *do* draw out (yet in EYE we're offered many blitzing options as wel - mostly thanks to the varied augmentation-system). It's damn believable - and in no way I know of any other shooter that's as accurate, realistic (the insanity even), and immersive (excluding ARMA-type sims)...

A game feeling slow is a plus. Real life (nighmares included) isn't a rollercoaster full of bang and entertainment. Less so's a horrible occult space cyberpunkish dystopia. It's also intentional that there isn't a clear sense of purpose. All's much more philosophical, and rides on themes of a mystic dystopia, insanity and somewhat on amnesia.

A convincing and *real* game at that this is. /yoda:wizard:

I just can't understand how many players feel a game is "broken" when they're not all-powerful against weakling predictable enemies, in a streamlined corridor and skill-progression, being spoonfed a Hollywood "story" and inbetween epilepsy-inducing flash "eye-candy"!:P
