Yes, I know it, but I was just surprised to see a ME3 codex entry for it (with an updated art) or the Avalanche, because they weren't present in ME3 SP or MP.

I guess they were planned (I just found a video with hacked Collector Beam in the SP) but ultimately cut from the game

Correct!  This will update your galaxy ratings just like the Datapad was able to.

Check out the Galaxy at War map! Appears they've added some sort of mini-game... you can zoom in on the different sectors and deploy troops to increase your readiness rating.

That is the 1st time I looked at the 'News' section of N7 HQ and saw the stats and comments about the maps from the map survey they asked us to do. Some nice info there.
