I'm not particularly looking for advice on how to fix this Shepard, I just made a new face and went through ME3 anyway. What I am looking for are any tips on how to avoid this in the future. I'm about to start another Mass Effect One playthrough and would much appreciate any advice on what I should do to keep a custom Shepard's face throughout all three games.
A Request: Tips on making the face import system work.

So I just recently got Mass Effect One when it came out for PS3. Unsurprising, on my first playthough of the trilogy, I got the face import bug when trying to import my Shepard into ME3. It just showed me the default "custom" face when I tried to import, no error messages or anything.

If you import your face from Mass Effect 1 into ME2 no face code is generated. This is why you get an error in ME3. There is a patch for it but all its really achieved was removing the error message.
All you can do is make a note of the slider settings from ME1 you use in the face creator and then use them in the custom face option of ME2. This should get you better results with the import into 3.
One of the big issues with the face import process is that for some reason Bioware removed options from the creator in Mass Effect 3, so for some recreating their Shepard is impossible.

Hmm, ok, thanks for the response. So my best bet is to just keep a paper log of where the sliders are and recreate Shep at the start of ME2, got it.

Sadly that really is the best option. Bioware consider the issue to be fixed.
If you were on the PC or 360 then you'd have access to the fan fix "Lazarus Project" which gets much better results.

Well, such is life. At least we PS people can play the whole trilogy now. Gotta take what you can get I guess. Thanks again for your advice!

I only have gotten a face import error once on the PS3, and i think its because i gave the ME1 face a facial scar, other than that one time its smooth

Hmm, good to hear someone isn't having problems with it. These were custom faces that you created in ME1? Did you edit them at all at the start of ME2?
