So, I just decided to start a new playthrough of ME1 as an engineer. I have beaten the game as a Vanguard and Infiltrator already. I decided I wanted to use assault rifles but didn't want to do a soldier playthrough. I heard you could get the achievement for shooting Pyjaks, so I loaded an old save and went to Eltenia and killed Pyjaks until I got the assault rifles trophy (150 kills with an AR).

When I went to character creation, assault rifle training is not there, but under the extras menu it says it is unlocked from getting that trophy. All my other bonus talents are showing up normally (shotguns, snipers, barrier, damping, etc)

Has anyone else had this problem and/or know a workaround? Is it because I got the achievement on a character without AR training as a skill?

More info: Yes this is a brand new Shep, not a new game plus. Yes it is on the same account. I am on Ps3.

Don't know if pyjaks work, I know that saving before you land on Eden Prime, and killing all the geth and reloading the save from the beginning and doing it over again works on both PC and 360.

I'm pretty sure the problem was that I did it on a character who did not already have AR training (non soldier). I have since done most of a soldier playthrough and I just checked and, sure enough, I can now make a Shep with AR training.

Apparently you can get the achievement/trophy with anyone but can only unlock the bonus power with a soldier.

No, you can get it from someone without the weapon training in question. I unlocked both Shotguns and ARs with the Infiltrator, for instance, using the exact same pyjak method.

I'm hesitant to even say this, because it's not good news, and I'm not sure how this translates to PC, as I'm on a console (PS3). But I had an issue of my own with Hacking. I unlocked it with an Engineer, then went to create an Infiltrator. The bonus power was there and I selected it, but the game locked up loading the opening sequence. When I went to recreate the character, Hacking no longer showed up as a bonus power. The trophy still showed as unlocked, but the bonus power was not available.

I ended up deleting my profile, which cleared all trophies in-game (though they still showed on PSN), and re-unlocking it. Fortunately, this was very early in my play of ME1, so I didn't lose too much, but this method will require you to re-unlock every achievement you've already earned. So yeah...that royally sucks. But it did fix my issue, and it might do the same for you.

I sincerely hope you can find an easier solution.

One more thing...

If you go the route I did, the trophy won't actually pop up again since it's already registered on the network. I had to count my hacks (using the turret in Fist's office). After 75 hacks, I went back to the main menu to create my Infiltrator, and Hacking was once again available as a Bonus Talent.

I know this is a couple weeks old now but I'm pretty sure the reason is that you need to save the game after you unlock the weapon/power trophies/skills in order for it to stick. It keeps track of it only so long as you do not exit the game or have saved your game if you do exit.

Since you've unlocked the trophies already you'll have to do what billpickles did and just count how many you have until you reach the number needed but then make sure you save your game so the unlocks stay unlocked.
