I  apologize if there has already been a thread of this about, but I feel I needed to share my opinion. (And forgive me if this has already been confirmed...)

BioWare mentioned an old personal favorite would be back in Awakening, along with five new companions. Now since Alistair is King (depending on how you completed your story) he is most likely to not be it. In Dragon Age there are only two unkillable companions: Morrigan and Oghren. And Oghren cannot, no matter what you do, leave your party. You're basically forced to have him.

Since this new character seems to be a definite thing, I find it only logical to conclude that the character will be Oghren. Morrigan is elswhere, and I highly doubt she'll even be remotely involved in Awakening.

Agreements, disagreements?

Sounds like the Most plausible Theory at the moment, plus i think you can see him briefly in the trailer.

..I guess it all depends on how Bioware implement the continuation of your original character's story.

There are so many paths that you can choose that I would find it disappointing to say; import one of my characters that had Alastair executed after making Anora queen, only to see him return as king in Awakenings...or to have Morrigan appear with an Old-God baby when I refused her offer!

Alastair features several times in the trailer so it seems likely that, all weather permitting, he'll appear in awakenings. As westiex9 mentions, there is also a back-shot of a stout red-headed dwarf with a 2h Axe strapped to his back, who looks remarkably like Oghren!

I think you'll be able to choose... But: Sten went back home, Morrigan is unaviable, one way or another, so it could be Shale, Alistair, Wynne, Leliana, Loghain or Oghren and maybe mabari.

I honestly do not think that is logical. I mean, go through hours, and hours of diologue in the studio, only for ONE to be featured to any given person considering their storyline? I doubt it. I still say it's Oghren

It has already been stating you don't choose its the same person for everyone. Also I think its Oghren due to them showing him the trailer a few times and in party formation in all those times. Also to the guy worried about Alistair being king if you had him executed whoever you chose as ruler transfers over.

This.

It is either Morrigan or a non party member NPC from the main game.

Oh come on! Why Morrigan? It's to soon for her. Do you want a pregnant Morrigan fighting on your side? Forget it, she might appear in the sequel.

It couldnt be shale because she disapears and is suppose to be back in her dwarf form and Wynne went with her.

I agree, it makes sense considering like you said he is the only character you can not give the boot & he was featured in the trailer in two separate scenes one which looked as if though he was actually in your party.

Maybe it will be Shale in her Dwarf form?

This, or it is a killable character, but if you killed him/her in the original campaign, you cant recruit him/her during the expansion.

Me personally, I think its Leliana. She is Orlesian. She travels away after the game. And, she could be a continuous romance option (add more depth to the story as the other romances would be new, or you can continue the long term one with Leliana).

Everyone saying that you cannot kick out Oghren are incorrect. I was able to tell Oghren to leave, and he left. Same thing with Morrigan. You can kick them both out of your party.

I did a test to see how many people I could kick out. The only ones I couldn't were Alistair, Wynne, and the Dog. Assuming you don't kill Wynne and got the Dog of course. So those are the 4 that will stay in your party no matter what you do.

I still think it's Oghren though, he shows up in one of the videos in party formation.

I'll bet my left ball it's gonna be Oghren. He didn't have any impact to the story in DAO and you couldn't kill him. The best choice considering story and customer happiness.

Having romances and other possible endings carry on from DAO would require too much work, it's not like Bioware has 1billion budget. In Awakening they are gonna throw at our face the canon lore of Dragon Age and you will have to suck it up.

There could still be room for romance with Alistair, if your character was a Human Noble of course.

Apologies for double post, http://dragonage.bioware.com/awakening the video footage there. The only companion you hear/see is Alistair. He's seen in numerous places which aren't (as far as i know) in the current game aswell as sporting some new (as far as i know) armor. He also says some dialog i don't recognise. You can't kill him (as far as i know) and he never leaves the Grey Wardens so my bet is that it's him regardless of whether he became King or ran away and whined some more

Oghren appears twice in that video. Once 1/4 way through, another time when some mage summons some trees and you are attacked near the end.
