Time to play Left 4 Dead again!

^ Hahaha, exactly. Image IPB

I was just talking to my bff over the weekend about the witches in L4D - sweet baby jesus, the witches. The clickers scared me just about as much.

And P.S. please don't ever change your avi.

I hate the noises they make... and all those times i noticed that I used my last shiv, just as Joels fist was connecting with the clickers chin. NOMNOMNOM :crying:

And P.S. please don't ever change your avi.

Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?

^ I don't care what anybody says, Vaas was great. I wish he would have played a bigger (and more frequent) part in the game.

It's pretty easy to burn through shivs in some of those areas, especially if you're stealthing. I got chomped on by clickers more times than I care to recall.

And the way they hobbled around reminded me a little too much of the nurses in Silent Hill.

The only thing that bewildered me is how the spores work. Do you have to inhale a certain volume for the infection to take? I mean, it's supposed to be some odd manifestation of unilateralis, right? Like most spores, they are penetrative, so I find it hard to believe they would remain mostly contained within a building or a minimal radius of an open-air infected death site. The entire evolutionary genius behind spores (especially parisitoids) is how easily they're propagated.

So how the hell does anyone avoid infection?

They're magic spores; that's also how they're able to turn people into those big hulking Bloaters.

...That too.

This game chose such an odd infection plot. We all would die if armageddon occurred tomorrow, and everyone else, too. But at least I'd get a day off.

Sh*t, I wish it would. I’m the type of b*tch that when the world is ending, and you all are scuffing to survive after the end, I'mma be moving into someone’s abandoned penthouse with my looted Versace and fancy liquor throwing an apocalypse party. Ask me if I give a f*ck. I don't.

IMO, the Fireflies made a HORRIBLE decision in the beginning.  They COULD have contacted the government and let them know they had found an immune person and let THEM find the cure.  The government has more resources and security than they do.  It was more important to them to risk Ellie being lost in a cross-country trip than to give someone else control over the cure.  If they were REALLY intent on saving humanity that wouldn't have been an issue.  (Of course, if they had we wouldn't have a game, but still...)

lol no .__. you think they would after the government ruthlessly hunted them for so long? Even before that, they were essentially an anti-government group... who would've most likely used the cure they'd find as political leverage.

Good luck to you. Collect the card, memorize your path, and run like hell!

I ran right past the bloater in my run - a little closer than I should have, but somehow got past him. Of course, that was on normal difficulty, but it seems like the same tactic would (might?) work.

Which way did you go? Doesn't he come in from one of the lower rooms? I went up the ramp just beside the generator and avoided him until I was just going through the door he fired spores at me.

I told you all the secret to dealing with this section: scream + sh*t your gusset + run away like a b*tch = success. Never underestimate screaming and blind panic.

That's exactly my point - even knowing the government would use the cure for political leverage, the Fireflies should have given it to them.  THE SURVIVAL OF HUMANITY IS AT STAKE. They'd rather risk losing the cure just to make sure THEY have it for political leverage. They're not "selfless freedom fighters", they're just another political faction.

I think I took the ramp up to the right of the generator. The bloater was up on the top level when I went by him. I'm not sure how he got up there so fast, and I was too terrified to even think about it.

You're right about the screaming and blind panic. Image IPB

SPOILERS

I'm supposed to trust some random medical researcher (who got his degree and training from who knows where 20 years after society ended) to be able to create a cure to the most deadly disease known to mankind using a busted down general hospital? I killed all of his guards with an empty glass bottle; clearly we're scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of remaining technology. There's no way Ellie's sacrifice was going to pay out enough given the horrible odds against it.

Mankind seems to be doing pretty well regardless. We can easily prevent the main source of the disease with a simple mask, and if Joel is any indication we have about a 1000+ : 1 kill ratio against infected. A cure would be nice, but it doesn't look like things are all that dire if you're smart enough to stay in a major settlement.

What was wrong with living with the government anyway? A curfew? Rationing? It's the apocalypse, suck it up.

The documents Marlene has left behind suggests Ellie isn't the only one and that she would most likely be not the last or the first to die in treatment.

As far as I understood it, the Fireflies started as a pro democracy movement that turned to guerilla warfare against what they saw as a violent military regime. These days that regime has slowly been winnig against them for the last 20 years.
Turning over the cure to the "fascist" goverment and giving them even more power, when they have their own researchers and doctors, probably never even crossed their minds.

Although I do tend to agree - if only Vaas had been more present. He had moments of brilliance, but I'd have loved to see more.

On a slightly different note, and back on topic, I ran across an image the other day of that Ancient Aliens guy with a clicker head, and now I can't seem to locate it. Have you guys seen it? It was just SO perfect.

This was the first game where I've gotten to hear phrase "Ma'am, it's out of stock."

Followed by:
"... ... Know any other branch that might have stock?"
"Ma'am we don't have a phone."

Now, I may just be a hood n*gga who don't read good, but my understanding was that the Fireflies were pro-government and anti-military. There isn't much in the way of direct exposition (or maybe I didn't look hard enough), but it seems to me that the only form of "government" was martial law of an indefinite time period. How the military continues to sustain and expand isn't really explained (though it isn't hard to imagine—enlistment benefits could be as simple as "food," and most resources would go toward containment and offensive capability), but they do appear to be the sole authority left with any kind of agency and organisational structure.

And I'm guessing you've never lived in an occupied region before (even one occupied by domestic troops) because I can tell you right now that it is some serious f*cksh*t. Remember that these people are immune from reprisal. They are the sole arbiters of justice, and exact it as they see fit. Consider the fact that soldier-perpetrated rape, murder, and torture are endemic to all forces occupying lands or peoples. Consider also that there is absolutely no recourse in this universe, because there isn't even a pretence of infrastructure anymore. These people also control your food. Starvation is no joke. You can bet all types of extortion, from sexual to economic, are the norm. I mean, obviously it isn't going to be uniformly (that) horrific, but you can damn well expect corruption and brutality at every level.

...And then you got dead motherf*ckers rising from the dirt like Thriller tryna take a bite out your bootymeats.

Survival mode is actually the best way to play the game, at least for my tastes. Though, you won't be able to get all the unlocked shiv-doors (at least I think so), since material is very and I mean very sparse. I've barley had any shivs, sadly. Anyway, I'm really enjoying it on Survivor and I can't wait to do it again on NG+.
