I have an interesting perspective on the matter:

(1) There was no 100% guarantee the vaccine would work. What next?
(2) What if Ellie is indeed the only one immune? Kill her and lost the chance to invent the cure forever? No way.
(3) Protecting Ellie so she can grow up and have her own kids looks like a long, but much more effective way to find a real cure.

Joel is a smart person. I'm sure he kept all of this in mind while making his decision. I believe the decision was only partially selfish.

I thought the same thing when I was watching the ending.  But even if it guaranteed a cure, it wouldn't have been worth it.  Humanity is not worth saving if it requires those kinds of sacrifices.  It would have been cliche if they made the ending any other way, especially if you look at the trend in other recent video games.

Bioware should hire the story writer for The Last of Us.  It's the first long story campaign in while that I didn't feel like I wasted my time by playing it.

Wondering if anybody else hit the three surgeons in the operating room with a shotgun blast to the face...Image IPB

Took me 19 hours on hard. Seems like you rushed.

When I played the Hospital chapter, I thought "what the hell man, just because you can't let her go you doom all of humanity? You're the villain here!" Then after a while I thought that the chances of this having any positive impact is small, and perhaps he made the right choice... or is that just me justifying what he's done?
Clichés (or lack of them)

Nah you're just trying to justify it. Like most people who agree with what Joel did.

What Joel did wasn't a good choice, it was not a heroic choice. It was a very human and very selfish choice, it was a choice most people would take. And that is the point, humanity is selfish.

Humanity at this point is beyond saving. David was just a small example of what exists in that universe. humanity will never be the same.

Its selfish to give humanity even a small chance of hope when it is so far down the toilet, Fireflies will no doubt use the cure as leverage/blackmail against any resistance or military. Nobody should have that sort of power. It isn't just a cure, but also a weapon in the wrong hands.

If Marlene was willing to sacrifice a child for the "greater good", then she is capable of "sacrificing" a lot more in the future.

And even if a cure was made, how will it be distributed across the globe?

I killed the one who said he will stop me, and the one who called me animal. Spared the third one, because she didn't look hostile.

I thought the fireflies were the selfish ones.  Too cowardly to live in what the world had become and willing to kill ellie just to make themselves feel more comforatable.  Damn unitarian scumbags.  Nothing needs to be justified.  Joel made the right choice and it was no more selfish than anything the fireflies wanted for themselves.

Anybody buying the map packs that are released for MP today or would the season pass be a better buy because of the single player DLC this December?

If this is really a confirmed thing, then between this and "How the Saints Saved Christmas" it's going to be the best month for DLC ever.

Ah, I don't really care about the MP stuff, but that SP DLC sounds interesting. I guess we're going to a carnival.

Here is another link

So I take it nobody has the season pass and nobody here is too interested in the MP part?  I enjoy the MP quite a bit, these new maps look awesome.

Really?! I swear I never rushed this game. I'm the kind of guy who plays Skyrim and walks to their destination.

Okay, where on the PS3 can I check my game time?

Gotta love how some of the people on that video gets their knickers in a twist over not playing as gruff-generic-hairy-handsome-protagonist number #1000000000

Looking forward to a DLC with more Ellie!

Ellie is freaking badass. I have no problem with playing as her. She's awesome, wish I had her as a little cousin or something.

Looks interesting, but I don't see how it would work gameplay-wise. Ellie learned how to use a gun and fight during the course of the main game, right? So wouldn't that mean a prequel DLC with her couldn't have combat?
