They don't have to officially confirm the sequel to start developing it. Pre-production is not a very fast stage.

As of right now it's up in the air. Druckmann has said that they are either going forward with a new IP if they feel they can't do anything more with The Last of Us which is what I'd prefer or they continue with that brand with another story. So, in other words. A sequel has not been confirmed.

This. It's definitely in development.
I'm also thinking of revisiting TLOU. On PS3, though. I never finished the game on Survival difficulty. Might get to it next week after I've wrapped up Dark Souls this weekend.

They didn't.
They need to. I could imagine them doing a really good one.

Eh. Doesn't really excite me if they do, personally, but I'll wait and see.

Completed TLoU-R playthrough on my PS4 yesterday. That was awesome. Especially considering the way I did it:
- Played TLoU-R on Grounded difficulty level till The Winter.
- Switched to the Left Behind, and completed it on Grounded difficulty level.
- Switched back to TLoU-R, and completed the playthrough starting from The Winter.
The Grounded difficulty level is quite hard, and it has another advantage I really liked - it disables in-game UI (expect the things cricital to be able to play at all, like weapon selector, or crafting menu for example). It makes the game look less like a game and more like an interactive experience you take part in. Well, and the mentioned playthrough order helped to turn the original game and the DLC into one persistent story played in chronological order.
It was also great to see the actual game has the same visual quality as its cutscenes, which was impossible on PS3.

Would it excite you more than Uncharted 4? LOL.

I went back and played Left Behind (mostly to grab the achievements that I missed the first time.)
Still hits in the feelz.
I found myself wondering if it would have made sense, with the new edition that they released, to slip Left Behind in between Fall and Winter? I haven't played the main story in a long time, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing in there that it would spoil.
There's a couple of things... they don't spoil anything, technically, but there are a couple of lines of dialogue that have extra layers that you would only understand if you've finished the vanilla game before playing Left Behind.
