So... is this a good game from a gameplay perspective?

the gameplay is good but not very fun. It's not a survival game you count kills per minute like L4Dead for example. It's mostly a stealth game-ammo is scarce

Not if you're stealthy. Image IPB

Although there are some parts where you can't escape having to pull out your gun. And I'd highly recommend upgrading clip capacity on everything. That's where thorough exploration is really valuable.

I would also disagree with the 'it's not very fun' statement. I think t's a heck of a lot of fun. And I'm finding myself very moved by the story, and the interaction between Joel and Ellie. It's nice to have to figure out how to escape a treacherous situation, without the game overtly hand-holding (I'm looking at you, Remember Me).

I think if you go the stealthy route, it can be quite satisfying to lay out every single enemy in an area with a choke. Image IPB In one area, I set up an impromptu 'death room', as enemies kept wandering in there, so I kept killing them. I ended up with a pile of dead bodies. Nice and neat.

I've been having fun with planting bombs in choke points where enemies haven't noticed me, then tossing a brick to get their attention. When they come running, boom! It works best with the infected, though.

I still haven't completed the game yet; just got past the college and the lodge.

I don't think so - unless you like stealth, but even then the game forces some combat and the gun mechanic has built in inaccuracy unless you put points in a skill.

Haha, its funny that everyone is saying that this is a stealth game that forces you into a shootout every so often. I very much played this game as a shooter/action (melee FTW), and was forced to be stealthily once in a while. Its always best to be stealthy around clickers, and Ellie's escape is basically a stealth only mission but other than that I found you could take enemies out however you like.

I can count how many times I got into a firefight, it was rare. I played it very stealth-like and enjoyed it immensely. My one peeve about the stealth though is when you're sneaking and say, Tess or whichever other character you're with, they'll end up crouching right beside an enemy sometimes and it just sort of made me laugh, at least the first time I seen it.

^same.  I actually tried to have fun at certain points, especially with the nail bomb, good times.

Or they  run across an area or speak loudly making noise in the progress. -__-

It didn't break my immersion, but it was just something out of place. Again though, AI being AI.

Man, one of the my favourite moments in the game was probably when you're with Ellie and you fall down the elevator and you end up in that really creep area. The music and sound team did an amazing job with this game.

It does? There's weapon sway that you can spec to reduce (but it's not that much to begin with, all my points went into listen mode radius until it was maxed and I still never had a problem shooting) but I don't remember any way to increase accuracy; if you put the reticle in the right place then the only reason you'll miss is if you're moving.

You don't "increase" accuracy, but your sway becomes better, so in context - you can become more accurate.

I mixed it up between stealth and action myself. I liked how easily you could switch from one to the other and back even in the middle of a fight.

Oh, and you don't have to stealth clickers once you hit the lategame, since you can one-hit kill them with either the shotgun or the shotgun/pistol (the shorty, I think it was called?).

I tried to use stealth against Clickers but every time one turns out to be behind me, or a Bloater usually rips my face off. I love this game. Image IPB

I didn't realize how useful the bow is till late game.. sadface. I can't wait to replay it on Survivor and make sure I take advantage of that bow. El Diablo is a beast too.

I liked Bow for stealth, it was my best friend for sneaking past infected. But if I was to get into a firefight or battle Bloaters, I'd use Shorty or El Diablo, dem important titles.

They're pretty easy to shank anyway, if you brick them in the face first. Funnily enough, Ellie is really good for this because her knife never loses durability, so you don't need to waste shivs/melee weapons, just one brick/bottle per clicker.

I think I only left 3 enemies alive in the entire game. Ammo is scarce, but mixing up stealth, combat and bombs really helps.

I found that it really thrust me into the mindset of Joel the gruff survivor. As other characters were wandering around talking and bonding. I was going through drawers and every corner looking for anything I could use to get us through the next battle.

^ How is that possible? There are a couple that you have to kill for the story to progress.

Pretty sure I only killed two; the one in the school gym and the one you fight as Ellie. I'm pretty sure both have to be killed, too, unless you count letting your companion kill it as not killing it, which is cheating. :o

Edit: Oh, and there may have been one during the sniper's nest sequence too, I don't remember.

I saw one of the story bloaters die on its own. I'd barely done any damage to it and was dealing with a clicker. Next thing I know it was dead.
