I know there is a way to extract the game models and pose them for custom renders.  Has anyone tried to get an extracted model 3D printed?

I think it'd be really awesome to have a physical statue with my Shepard and favorite squad.

I assume if you had Gmod and a 3D printer it would be easy- people have added character models to Gmod already, so it can't be too hard.

It's not a problem to export the models, the problem is who has a 3d printer, they too much expensive

I have contacts with access to a 3D printer, in fact multiple, they are a "fast prototype" company. They have multiple 3D printers and CNC routers (Computer controlled routers). I can get some print jobs in for employee pricing when they aren't busy with customer work.

I downloaded XNALara & Blender and found a few ME3 models on DA that loaded into said program. The Legion one wouldn't load but the Kaidan one did and after some work I got the arms to move into a more natural position.

In XNALara it looked good, even with the textures off. The "bump mapping" really made the facial features work. Exported it to Blender and it looked like crap. :( I'm totally new the 3D modeling and I know the free software is probably not the easiest for a noob like me. I think the hard part will be the print will be single color unless the 3D printer accepts the texture maps.

I hope I used the 3D terms above properly.

Well, if you can get a 3D printer, then it should be easy- plenty of people around here are downright gifted when it comes to stuff like this- I am not one of them, but whatever.

Also, you have access to a 3D printer- I am jealous.

That was the plan when I made this post; Hoping someone with said skills will see it or had already tried it.  This could all be futile or would take huge amounts of skilled 3D modeling work to work.

Not direct access, nor would I even know how to load a print job.  :)   I'd love to learn how it works and at least some basics of 3D modeling.

I think it's easier to load models in 3dmax or maya, just search for tutorials on YT,but i'm not sure that programs support 3d printing

3DSMax does for sure, but it's not cheap. I can get a 30day demo, but I'd rather "learn the basics" with something else first. Blender will export the proper file type, it's just getting it to look good.

I got 3Ds Max and I have many of ME3 models extracted in it. I could extract any model from the game if anyone wants and it's a 5 minute job. Too bad I don't have a 3D printer yet. But if anyone got access to that, I can email the models or something. Pretty sure these can be loaded to a 3d printer.

Someone on BSN did post (and even give prizes) of Reapers they'd made on a 3d printer a good while ago, so it is certainly possible.

I couldn't find it but I know someone else did do a 3D printing of Liara and a Phalanx gun for her to hold.

S.A.K, it never occurred to me to print a SR2 but now that you've shown me that model I'm all *GRABBY HANDS* An SR2 would be a good test too. The characters I'm initially looking for are: Sheploo, Kaidan, Tali, and Garrus in their defaults armors.

I'll also send you a PM. :)

In 3Ds Max you can export your model to STL format, with most 3d printer programs can read. I have tried to print Liara's head, but even in my budget 3d printer the model trend to be a bit "blocky" so the in game model is relativity low res and I think will be even worse on a professional machine.

Yeah, the test renders I've done in Blender with the game models (with bump mapping off, etc) are pretty blocky.

I'm hoping my friend who works at the rapid prototype place can smooth out the models somehow.

Update: This may work for the SR2, and I hope the EA space fighter. However, for character models it will not. The game models are too low poly count and the 3D printers don't take bump maps nor texture images.
