Proper PUG Etiquette for 'Objective Waves'
#1
Posté 06 juin 2013 - 04:21
On every game when we would get to Wave 3, 6, and 10 with objectives, anywhere from 1 to 3 other players acted as if there was no objective unless it was to take out the blue targeted enemy.
Question 1: Is it poor etiquette and the sign of improper up-bringing to ask everyone to stand inside the highlighted circle, help get the 4 transmitters back on-line, or at least support the pizza deliveries?
Question 2: If I'm playing as the only Infiltrator should I be expected to get all 4 transmitters back up and running?
Question 3: How to you communicate to the other Pug players our score/reward is tied into how fast we get the objectives done?

2. Yep, if you're the most capable one why not.
3. Mic? o.o (but the last time I tried that they didn't seem to hear...)

my cloak useless by attracting aggro and standing
right next to me, which is stupid. However, supporting
with pizza deliveries is a must.
2. Yes. At least if you're specced for duration, which
you should be.
3. That would require using logic against them, which
is generally accepted to be impossible.

2. No (Edit - You should not be expected to - whoever is nearest/has the best chance, and sometimes it is better to have someone kill all the things, like a Claymore GI, instead of doing the objectives directly, but covering the objective.)
3. Mic

2. Sigh... this always seems to go down one of two ways: A. Everyone runs off and kills things, totally ignoring devices, so I do them. 2. Helpful PUGs lure every enemy on the map to the spot where someone is trying to disarm the device, mass chaos and chain deaths occur, WIPE.
3. Mic. Also, I can remember receiving a few helpful messages after matches when I was learning - some kind, some not so much but got their point across!
Follow up question: On devices, which I find the most difficult objective to do well on Gold and Platinum:
Any thoughts on the best way to help a teammate who's on it?
I usually try to kite enemies away & kill very little to avoid creating an ill-placed spawn, but sometimes that leaves the person high n dry as they get knocked off the device by the stray husk, abomination, bomber, dragoon, etc... Either way, I often feel like I've screwed up somehow...

lol bronze & silver
Sad, I know. All the UberNoobs are playing Bronze and Silver, but it's no fair to the team for me to play the higher levels with the in-built satellite lag I experience.
You try playing Plat with a 2 second delay on crappy-crappy-crappy Exede/WildBlue or Hughes satellite internet. I'll host and then you can have a real ME3MP challenge. Should be a banner for completing 10 Waves on Satellite Host (maybe a picture of a giant traffic jam).

2. Not really, I try to get them whatever character I run though.
3. I don't have a mic so I usually shoot them if they're on the other side of the map score-whoring.

however, consider that no matter your frustration or what you say, you may be the only one who isn't rambo'ing around picking up ezy kills. Hopefully at least one or 2 people actually help.
One thing I never do is rescue someone who dies and is not contributing to the event. In fact, I do a little cheer when they die and then I sigh when another player leaves the drone to go help the dead dumbsh*t.

If I'm the only person in a drone or circle hack, I leave it. I'm not doing it by myself. If they don't care, neither should you. Wipe and maaaaybe they'll get it.
Pizzas, I go for, unless there's a faster person on the team; Cabal spec'd for movement speed, Fury, Drell, Batarians, etc. Or if no one else is. BUT, if no one is defending the carrier (ie, you), drop it and go kill things, same as them.

PUG ME3-MP is NOT a Team Game; it's 4 separate individuals competing only to have the highest score.

Stay far enough away to not cause the team mate to be hit by splash damage or similar, but close enough to intercept any unit that comes near. Usually one person should have clear LOS on the person doing the objective and be able to see anything closing in on them. Kiting is good, but don't stray too far away. And have that missile ready for Atlases, Banshees, Praetorians, Primes and pesky swarmers...

2. Yes
3. Mic or just don't rely on pugs (hence my reasoning behind cheesing the hack/upload glitch)

I have a new strategy with PUGs on Collectors which involves possessed Abombs, it's called get yo ass to the hack or get blown up. I still generally nearly wipe the whole team on Collector's hacks though.

No, but you must keep your pimp hand strong with PUGs. Inform them that the mission will fail if they do not pitch in.
Question 2: If I'm playing as the only Infiltrator should I be expected to get all 4 transmitters back up and running?
No, but if you're one of two players close to a point you should cap it. If you're running duration and the team is having difficulty it may be time for you to take one for the team.
Question 3: How to you communicate to the other Pug players our score/reward is tied into how fast we get the objectives done?
Hey dumbasses, these objectives ain't gonna take care of themselves.
The real problem is good players allow this to continue instead of stopping it. I'd rather fail missions than be the sucker that runs around the map doing all the crap work. At the same time don't be a douche, take care of the objectives close to you, etc.

Think of it this way. You are training the newer players before they go up to Gold and Platinum.
Spare the rod, spoil the new players.

It is not the job of the infiltrator to do devices.
You don't. PUGs will PUG.

I have a notepad I alt-tab to with my own personal blacklist now, if I see someone pointedly ignoring objectives they get put under the "******" category and I don't queue up with em again. (Along with Lag and Hacker categories)
For pizza objectives, only thing that bugs me is when someone picks it up and doesn't know how to run with it, when someone (Like myself) has already demonstrated in the map that he knows how to run with it. At least this represents effort on their part though so I understand it. It's just inefficient.
