Technically no, but then again it isn't painless either.

The essence of Harvested people is still alive, preserved in the Reaper form.

My main issue with that is that the reaper form lacks sex appeal.

Killing a Reaper is a crime. Crime equal to the genocide. And total disrespect of the ones who came before us.

Very true, and I couldn't agree more. However, there is some misunderstanding, met with an equally overzealous response. The inability of either side to concede anything has weakened the potential of both entities involved. That's the main issue here. Neither side wants peace. Both continue on thinking they're working as intended, which is why the collective work of those long gone eventually solve the issue one way or another.

Killing a Reaper is self-defense, actually, so I'm pretty okay with it.  You'll notice that the Reapers don't really do all that much harvesting - they kill the vast majority of their victims by blowing them up with giant laser guns.
