Oh, I'm aware there are issues. People can have them for all the Bioware games. As long as I get something out of it though, I'm cool. It doesn't bother me how much it upsets others. I didn't pay for their copy of Mass Effect 3. It sucks if it didn't work for them, but I'm able to compartmentalize differently and just say "Screw it." Call me shallow.

On topic...

Are you serious?

Oh, good. I was hoping for nice tall glass of milk.

Tell that to the oats in my oatmeal.

Now I laugh again! Image IPB

But my EoE experience is really quite similar to how differently people feel about the ME3 endings in general, and Synthesis in particular. Of the 3 friends I first watched it with two were all like "damn, don't you see? It's beautiful...!" and the last one was physically sick in the end, just like myself. The two with whom I vehemently disagreed never insulted me, though... ^^

If there's flaxseed in it, lol.

No, no. That's just blood. They're converted into a whitish paste on the way up to the Reaper.

I still have a slight problem with Destroy though, because it doesn't offer the longterm way out. I could destroy the Reapers for their stupidity, but more machines could come to the same conclusion, and make equally stupid "ethical" choices. The idea of updating their understanding on a primal level is appealing more. It makes that whole era of AI obsolete. Perhaps I'm just as indoctrinated as Saren was though. lol

I have yet to recieve an answer from just about anybody on this:

How does synthesis make a synthetic "understand" organics? What causes it? Why can't it be done without synthesis? Why do the synthetics need to understand organics now anyway?

That was a change that was made in ME3. They completely changed the Geth and EDI for this idea of understanding. Chris L'Etoile is probably still pissed about what the goons did to the Geth and EDI.

The Synthesis mechanism is pure magic mumbo jumbo. I wouldn't bother trying to find an explanation. I'm just looking purely at the results, and think.. "OK, that looks like a good way out." It also had a warm fuzzy Edi narration at the end. Glad that happened. She's one of my favorite characters.

And the magic mumbo jumbo is one of the biggest reasons of why I can't accept it. I can't take the crap at face value. It's utterly ridiculous. I want my stories to be concise, to make sense (both literally and within the theme of the universe), and to be logical.

Destroy looks like the best way out I can manage. Looking at everything the ending has presented me with, it's better that many die now so that all in the future will never have to deal with.

EDI was heavily damaged as a character in ME3. The romance plot was ridiculous, and she didn't need to become a squadmate. All it is is AI's learning to be human.

Look at how Chris L'Etoile characterized the Geth and EDI in ME1 and ME2, and look at what happened to both in ME3. They get turned into a bunch of space pinnochio's.

I read how L'Etoile described the Geth. I can see the quality there too, but I don't dislike the direction they took either. Even if it's the more traditional type of AI storyline ("becoming human"... or wanting to understand humans). If the AI in Mass Effect were relegated as the Geth.. who I would liken to some kind of hivemind of severe autistics..then I'd kill them with impunity. EDI shifted my gears a bit. And for the better. I stopped becoming a jerk about the AI issue.

The thing is, it also breaks narrative cohesion. SuperMac and Hudson changed a lot of things for reasons that can be prescribed to either "rule of cool", "wider audience", or "synthesis". They changed a lot of characters characterizations.

Cerberus is one of my biggest points. They took an organization that was truly gray, a group that had terrible methods to suit a very altruistic goal. It was something they acknowledged, but understood as being necessary to achieve a better future. Something my Shepard could get behind instead of the impotence, arrogance, ignorance, and self-righteousness of the alliance and the Council.

At least in ME3, I can use the indoctrination card.

They basically changed Mass Effect to suit what they wanted, instead of making what they wanted to suit Mass Effect.

The Geth and EDI were unique before because they gave us this whole perspective that was very alien, very different. Then they turn around and say, "nope, all they ever wanted to be was human." It's disturbing how people could have thought that was a good thing.

They basically simplified everything, made things black and white, and put more emphasis on action and explosions instead of story and characters, two things the first two games did exceedingly well on.

Oh, as for Cerberus, I said they were bastards before. I didn't mean totally. I'm with you in that they had some essentially good goals, and some of things obstructing them could easily be a reason for Shep to join them as well.

That said, they're still bastards for going too far. I'm in the Miranda/Jacob camp of Cerberus. Not anyone else. I find the Illusive Man more of a tragic figure though. Not evil. I feel sorry for him in a way, but he's still a bastard. I understand why they changed though.. indoctrination is a b!tch.

I still like Miranda as a LI too. Even without her getting much content. She's one of the only ones that doesn't put Shep on a pedestal. The relationship revolves around them wanting to be normal. I think that's cool.

I posted a thread that has my opinions on Cerberus in greater detail.

It's not so much the ethics of their experiments that bother me. It's the payout? Why am I doing this. Why am I resorting to such extreme methods so quickly? What is the purpose of the experiment and the long term goal of the project?

I literally do not get it.

ME has, rightfully, an anti-reaper narrative. Seival is pro-reaper (and pro-leviathan considering how his canon ending had the leviathans dominate the galaxy again). Why play a game where you're trying to stop the very thing you agree with? I mean, play it all you want, just curious.

I think I'll do the ship thread (warning: this may ****** off some people)

Shepard/Miranda

Jacob/Brynn

Vega/Dr. Ann Bryson

Joker/Dr. Michel

Garrus is forever solo as a Turian playboy

Ashley never gets over Shepard. Is convinced that Miranda and Cerberus brainwashed him somehow.

Tali's hero worship of Shepard defers to Garrus, and then goes away over time. She finds a nice Quarian to settle with.

Liara never quite gets over her crush on Shepard, but realizes it will never be.

Javik is the lone Warrior

Conrad/Jenna

Samara is her usual Justicar self

Grunt has many Krogan kiddoes... and eats most of them by accident.

Wrex/Eve

Zaeed and some human/Asari prostitute.

Kasumi never gets over Keiji.

As my alternate, Kaidan gets together with Kelly.

Otherwise, Kelly doesn't have anyone, and she needs someone. Urz doesn't count.
