who else thinks that this game could have the potential to be a good movie?

It would be like the other 80% of fantasy movies out there, honestly:

- The land is in danger and only a few know about it.
- The chosen one is called to adventure.
- There is some mentor figure that meets a tragic end.
- There are battles.
- And more battles.
- And lots of cut-away scenes to evil villains posturing and politicking.
- The party goes on a quest for some sacred holy grail or mission objective that will help end The Evil.
- There is a compulsory female love interest (and there will ALWAYS be a kissing/romantic scene in the trailer).
- The big showdown.

I mean, DA:O is pretty awesome as a game, but as a movie it would be something else especially when it rests on so many common tropes that when compressed down to 2 and a 1/2 hours of viewing would likely come off as cliched and emotionally unengaging. I suppose if you like your fantasy action flicks it would offer you something, but as far as I'm concerned it would be no different from films like Troy, Pathfinder, Eragon, In The Name of The King: Dungeon Siege, Kingdom of Heaven, the upcoming Prince of Persia etc where it's the same pattern done to death (and often with poor and hammy results). Simply put, the 'hero's journey' taken to the big screen isn't exactly a promising prospect especially when it follows in the footsteps of a dozen other pretenders out there IMHO. UNLESS you get Peter Jackson to direct the film and some really awesome actors who can actually act, in which case there would be legitimate reason for hope.

I nominate Liam Neeson to play the role of Duncan!

Alan Rickman as Teyrn Loghain, perhaps?

Who else would make a great DA:O character?

There's even going to be a World of Warcraft movie. Did you know?

Video game based movies suck. There has never been a good one, ever. I doubt a Dragon Age movie would change that.

Advent Children was pretty good. (From Final Fantasy 7) but I do agree that for some reason movies made from video games are missing something.

Makign a movie will impose a canon version of the game, which would suck. So no, no movie.

the first RE movie was mildly entertaining. The other 2 were just plain bad. Shockingly I think the WoW movie might turn things around. I don't expect it'll be a goldmine of artistic expression but if Sam Raimi is directing it it might at least prove that one can do a competent film based on a Video Game.

Now if only I could get valve to look at my Half Life film script.

All the Resident Evil movies were crap. Paul WS Anderson is the worst director out there aside from Uwe Boll.

I can't see Dragon Age making a particularly compelling film unless it's a completely different story from what we played in the game. Maybe something to do with annulling the circle and an old templar, someone for whom the lyrium hasn't been particularly kind to.
