The last time I check was a month ago, and it was still 1200 Microsoft points for Xbox. So I'm assuming its still not free on other platforms too.

One catch however...

It seems as though it still has to be downloaded.

Therefore, it costs you nothing but time (to download it). Posted Image (a.k.a. not a big deal)

So what about those of us who who bought the game new?

These passes were supposed to reward those who gave EA/Bioware money instead of the people who bought second hand, giving money only to the store.

Nice to know my loyalty was worth it.

Comments like this make me think that the problem with the games industry is the gamers themselves. As long as they were around, Online-Passes were considered the spawn of satan, and now that they are gone, that's the problem all of the sudden?
Seriously, the gaming community as a whole just needs to stop complaining all the time. The fact that you people can never be satisfied isn't the dev's and pub's fault.

Forgive my negativity but I've been having a drink with my friends tonight who have always found it rather amusing that I buy my games new. Some get their games, shall we say, from less than legal sources.

My argument has always been that its better to buy new to pass money on to the people who make the games. Yet tonight I've had to suffer the 'humour' of those folk because of what I do.

I had no problem with project 10 dollar. A system to reward those who buy new over those who buy second hand or pirate.

Makes me wonder why I bother buying new when it doesn't benefit me.

PLus them dropping the passes is hardly a big thanks to the gamers. Rather they don't need it thanks to the new DRM in consoles such as the upcoming Xbox One.

Im actually a guy who buys alot of games used, and sell them on kijiji when i get bored of them. I dont do anything illegal. I did by the trilogy new (games i like i usually buy new), but im happy that the online pass business is over with, its dumb that people on the same console cant both play a game online because they need an online pass.

As for the xbox one, yeah no way in hell im buying that garbage

But they could.

Everyone on one 360 could play Mass Effect 3 online with the one pass, same with the EA Sports titles and Battlefield 3. Perhaps it was different for other EA titles but those are the only ones I have experience with.

The way the Xbox 360 DRM worked allowed that. One pass would allow multiple accounts to play online on the console it was redeemed on.

You could even allow two consoles online with the one pass because of the 360 DRM. Redeem on one console to allow any account to use it. Play on another console with the account that used the code.

I can't speak for the PS3 because I bought it fairly recently.

At any given time on the Internet, someone is going to be upset about something, and that someone is going to make their displeasure known, usually in the most obnoxious way possible.

You got to play it when it was released at no extra cost without having to wait the years these people had to wait for it to become free.

Would you like something more? If so, here:
Thanks for buying it. :)

Cool, so I got the same as those who pirated it at release.

Sorry for employing the same level of sarcasm as your post but why should I respond any different if that is how you choose to respond to me.

If I know that all I have to be is patient to get extra content for free, then I don't see the need to buy new from Bioware again. I return to older games often, so free content after a while will be a nice treat.

Now I don't expect to be told what I want to hear, such a thing would be foolish, but I do expect to be told it in a polite manner from a company I am giving money to. Sarcasm is not polite.

I am upset but I hope I haven't put that across in an obnoxious manner. Though I confess that perhaps my irritation is blinding me.

It's more a statement about the Internet as a whole; regarding the claim that gamers are always complaining about something.

No matter what happens or what decisions are made, SOMEONE out there isn't going to like it. And when you have a medium where tens of millions of people can voice their opinions easily, chances are you are always going to hear someone complaining about anything under the moon; creating the illusion that "gamers" are always dissatisfied.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I'm sorry you misunderstood.

I'm not sure what you want to hear. I do thank you for buying new. You did get the content at the time of launch included in the price that others who bought used had to pay for. There was never a plan to give this for free, but EA chose to do away with the online pass requirement, years after launch, so it became free.

Maybe you should explain what you want? Or how this is unfair to you?

::grumble grumble::: I would be happy if the CD Check were patched out of ME2 like it was for ME1 :D Same goes for DA:O.  At least let me launch them without the CD since I have them added to my Origin account!  I'd imagine that if I uninstalled and reinstalled through Origin it would then let me launch without the CD, but that is a pain!  :::end grumble:::
But the online passes/Cerberus Network being free is nice, and a step in the right direction IMO.  And while I didn't buy ME2 at launch (had never heard of Mass Effect until October 2010, then I became hooked), I did buy ME3 at launch, and I don't feel like I was wronged in any way by the online passes/Cerberus Network going free.

I'm not bitter at all about this becoming free. I bought the 360 and PC games brand new. The funny joke among my friends is I picked up my copy of Mass Effect started playing it with a new basic gaming laptop and with a decent graphics (or what I considered decent) card, I absolutely fell in love. I bought Mass Effect 2, and in the new game was my Cerberus Network present and when I bought a 360 version, same thing.
I played them over a year as a free bonus others had to pay 1200 points for. So, no hard feelings, in fact replaying Knights of the Old Republic recently, I'm very glad for all the extra content available for these massive games. I mean some of the initial content was planned but cut out like the extra planet in the star map quest of my first and beloved Bioware game. And some is extra bonus story for my games. I'll admit that the whole ME3 ending thing upset me but with the EC and time, I'm in a good place about it. Enough so that I'm a little embarrassed I got carried away- the hold the line mantra at the end became more about pride than ME3, which is when I moved on. Anyway, that the Cerberus content exists at all is a great thing- to get off my rambling.

But a nice present would also be to add a download to allow us to play without the DVD ME2 game disc for PC. I say this because I'm very good at putting my discs in silly places in my clothes drawers. I only really have a problem with DA-Origins because it has a quirky disc effect in my new PC.

Aw shucks, you shouldn't have!

For those that did buy it new, it was an offer that we enjoyed before everyone else. You shouldn't expect after all these years to be given more additional content now. I wouldn't mind, though :P. The only thing I'd ask of Bioware/EA is to put some of those delicious DLCs on sale or push out an ultimate collection.
