This is completely serious. This comic accurately depicts the actual contents of the book. I cannot stress the fact that this is REALLYwhat occurs in the book.

This is damn good, I hope there are ragecomic versions of the tie-in comic books aswell.

I didn't buy the original book so don't know what I'm looking for in terms of actual sections. I'm heading back into town tomorrow where I found the reprint, so if someone could give me an excerpt that was particularly bad, I could check that?

Knock yourself out

Oh wow. I haven't read the novels, but I'm starting to see what all the rage was about.

I got 28 down the list before I gave up..... I can forgive the odd error. Nitpicker's guide to Star Trek would not have sold so many copies without disappearing and reappearing comm badges. Or contrations used by the "I can not use contraction", Mr Data. Or the doors that mysteriously know when to open to walk through, but stay closed when a person is flung at them and knocks them off their..... rail fixings?

But that list is just.........

Wow.

I'm very wary of generic writers that cash in on pick-up popular franchises.

Partly because their books are often written without interest in the subject matter background research, and are usually just pre-conceived stories with names and places changed to protect the innocent adapted to take place in the chosen franchise's Universe with some familiar characters. They just lack a feel of authenticity.
^_^

Yeah, that Mac Walters really needs to be replace... oh, wait, you're talking about Dietz. Posted Image

I didn't mention anyone in particular ;). I've noticed forum criticisms of Mac Walters' writing. Dietz has received some good reviews on some of his other books, so I won't judge his body of work based on one particularly weak book. HOWEVER, I still stand by my previous comment. Deception suffered from being based on Mass Effect, but then it probably sold more copies for being based on Mass Effect.

Anyway, from past experience, "Reprint" means just that - the publishers sent the book to the printing machines again. I'd expect to see "Edited and Reprinted - 2013" or "Second Edition" on a revised print.

Honestly, I really doubt that there will ever be a rewrite. The "2013 reprint" that OP mentioned is a dead giveaway IMO. If they were really considering a proper rewrite, they'd wait with a reprint until it is finished.

I mean, it's almost a year and a half since it became clear that the quality was lacking and fans demanded changes, which they then promised. Enough time to incorporate those in a reprint, I'd say.

I really am a ME completionist, but despite costing just € 4.50 (Kindle version), I reject spending those on an unfinished and yet-to-be changed product.

I contacted Del Ray, Random House and Bioware in February. This is the response I got about 3 weeks later:
Hi Russell, I have received information that we haven't yet released the updated edition. There are still plans in place to do so, however we do not yet have a firm release date.  I would recommend to check on this within a month or so to see the status of the title. Thank you, Customer ServiceC3854

I contacted them twice after that, in April and June, and finally got this response:
Good Afternoon Mr. Brown,We appreciate your continued interest in Random House Publications. We still do not have an update. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I'm not holding my breath at this point. Just another broken promise by Bioware. Now they've hired this Gears of War guy. I'm really bummed that Drew Karpyshan is gone. He seemed to have really held this franchise to a high standard. I hope they can pull it together for the next series, but I really have a feeling the next one will feel more like an on-rails space shooter than an open world RPG. If they surprise me, I'll be the first one to state what an idiot I am for questioning their capabilities, but..

Frankly it's not a big deal. Anybody who wants to see an edited version bad enough could do it themselves. Open a text program and write a changed version as a fanfic, or they could pull a Koobismo and make a comic, or a Machinima style movie with amended details.

Who cares if Hendel eats pancakes and ogles Asari? Pancakes are awesome and EVERYBODY loves Asari. And Kai Leng secretly hates himself for his hypocrisy where they are concerned: Sure he thinks Asari are wh*res, but some people like that about women. :P

Not exactly world shattering perhaps but it is a pretty big deal, if it is an example of the care that EA/Bioware are going to give the franchise in the future.

Also it seems that they outright lied about getting a rewritten version out.

Who said something about a new version? I have never seen an official announcement that Random House commissioned a rewrite.

Thanks for posting the link.

So yes, a year later and no sign of a fixed version of the novel.

It is possible that they are still working on it, a year later, but its far more likely that they lied about it in the first place.

I'd like to see a rewrite, but don't hold your breath.

More likely, we'll never hear about it again and the next set of novels will tie into the new games, and their setting.

Which actually makes Deception's stupid forced character deaths all the more unnecessary. ham-fisted and depressing.
