I'm trying to use this program, but importing a file gives me this error:
binary mdl file not decompiled, check file is valid or nwnmdlcomp is present
Any ideas?

Perhaps the file is compiled.
Open it using Notepad and see the garbled code....
So decompile it using Nwn compDcomp v1.03 (a front end to Torlack's decompiler, it's in the vault)
and try again....
Also, btw
Open the decompiled file with Notepad and see the difference

Don't forget to re compile the model (s) when you are done ...
The engine will display a non-compiled model but it is just a little easier for compiled models to load.
<less lag time>

This one is a great tool to decompile:
NWN Explorer Reborn 1.69
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=1369
Just open the model in the explorer, choose the ASCII Model tab (it will show the model in plain text), right click into the text, choose Export Text, remove the .txt (so it's only name.mdl) and it will load into Gmax without decompiling.
And you should launch Gmax with the NWmax icon and (if Win7) run as an admin (I set that both to NWmax and Gmax).
