well i still remember that rant thread (was it stardusk?) who went ON and ON about how someone dropped into his solo match and ruined it. So I have NEVER used the join game option, even though on xbox its relatively easy to set it to private

that thread was HILARIOUS.
unintentionally so.

lately i've been starting matches and leaving the "public" door open.
and sometimes my buddies join those matches. for which i'm grateful.
i'd never do it, but i don't mind when i leave the match open and proceed.

only thing i HATE is getting invited to matches in progress with no warning. or gear.
depending on the situation, i'll probably just leave.

I still want to try it... I mean I don't want to mess up a solo but I want to have someone trying to kill me like that. Inb4 Air Quotes sees this and trolls me

I think I may have done it once, a few months back when I didn't know how Origin worked. I thought the join button was an invite, go figure... I'd never do it on purpose though, its kind of intruding

I recognise you.

OT: I never do it. My impression is that it is kinda rude. Might be that the lobby is up but the host is waiting for other invited guests. Always ask first IMO.

I've never intentionally joined a match with somebody on my FL, however I pug a lot and have ended up in their lobbies.  They have also ended up in mine.  Doesn't really bother me.  I'm not going to kick somebody just because I felt like puggin and they joined my lobby.

Ha ha! I felt like I'd been caught en flagrante! I died more than once, thanks for trying to be nice. BTW, you died several times during that silver match, so I thought you'd be too ashamed to bring it up. I play bronze too! With equipment! :P

Actually, I'm not a fan of the ninja join. Often I'm in lobby inviting specific people -- and if someone else on my FL takes the spot I've just promised to a friend it puts me in an awkward position, because I hate to ask people to leave. :( I won't ninja join a game any more than I'd enter someone's house without knocking.

I was a GI with 700 shields, what's your excuse? :P

Also, if I ninja join into a lobby with three other players, I'll ask if I have taken a spot that was meant for someone else and will f*ck off without protest if I'm told that I did.

I have had other players ninja join two of my gold solo attempts and one plat solo attempt. Not going invisible is just asking for it, since anyone on your FL can just hop right in after opening a chat window.

Personally I like it when friends ninja join my games (not the solos, but that's what invisibility is for). If they asked me beforehand, I would only notice it sometimes after the match. I never check the origin pop-ups during games. If we're in a match and one or two guys short and then backup arrives ... that's kinda cool. So if you see the orange button in my chat window, feel free to hop in.

I ninja joined bauzabauza's silver game yesterday, shot some stuff and then started meleeing him. He melee'd back. We proceeded to kick ass. much more fun than PuGs imo.

It's not something I do, but if you want to solo you should've set it to Private + Invisible. If you're waiting for other friends (does Invisible prevent you from inviting?), just tell the ninja 'sorry man, I got other friends incoming and I need that slot' then Kick them. If you're PUGing, you should be bloody cheering when they join.

In short: I don't see how this is something to get mad over.

Invisible will only prevent people from joining if you also have the game set to private. I searched for a PUG and landed in a game with Air Quotes while he was invisible with a public lobby. I'm not sure why he was doing it that way but whatever.

I sometimes just start the game solo, because I have no patience to wait for it to fill up. And even though I have a full FL I'm also shy of asking people to join, because I don't know if they are busy or not.

So if someone joins - fine. If not - imma solo that thing.

I used to ninja join Stella Greys and Aetika's games, but then I felt guilty.

Good to know, next time I'll simply join instead of asking and falling asleep waiting for a response

Looks like we have the same issue, I doubt I have invited even five people to join me since the game came out, despite having a very active friend list.

I also ninja joined a few people during the early days, but I stopped doing that.

A lot less complaining about PUGs would happen if people weren't so shy.  Invite them.  They accepted/sent you a friend request, they obviously would want to play with you.

Edit: ^^^^^^^^ THIS!!! SO MUCH! ^^^^^^^^^^^^

I don´t do it myself, but I don´t mind it either. Had a bronze and a silver solo ninja´d but ended up having more fun togehter anyway.

If I ever get off my lazy butt to try the gold solos, I´ll go invisible.

@Cirvante: The risk you trade for the ninja fun is that you ****** away your consumables if you join my bronze relax-mode pug... :P

I always ask first if I'm looking to play and on the other hand I don't particularly like it when people join unannounced, lol. Ninja-joining can more often than not create an awkward few moments where you have to explain that you are waiting for someone you actually invited.

Ninja joining is pretty rude... you do not know what people are doing... Could be ruining a solo or duo. It cannot be that hard to send a message first...

I do it with friends who have previously said they're cool with it. Have ended up helping to save a couple of poorly going Platinum games that way.

No shameful secrets revealed, except a friend using the warp/incendiary glitch on Gold, against Reapers. And that was on Condor, so I completely understand wanting to finish that match as fast as possible.

Surprised to see so many people think it is rude. I set the lobby or party to private if I don't want people to join and sometimes set status to offline or busy. Otherwise I'd be happy to have friends join if I leave it open or a pug drops out.

Good thing we were still in the lobby yesterday
