Then maybe I'm just special since I'd like to be treated like a human being in stead of a piece of meat.

Just because you haven't witnessed it doesn't mean it doesn't happen when I was younger and much more mussley, it use to happen to me all the time, I even remember being at a club on a few occasion where a woman has come over to me and started to feel my arms and then proceeded to pull my top off, can you imagine a random guy doing that to a girl?

I can assure you, it happends to women and it has happened to me -- not the "feeling up arms" bit but men who have tried to hike up my skirt? Slapped my arse? Feeled up my breasts? Yes, it has happened, and I can tell you I'm not the only woman who's experienced that. But touching anyone sexually without concert is always wrong (as is making overt sexual suggestions), were it a woman or a man doing the touching, that is of course true and I agree with you 100%: it happends, and it shouldn't happen, since everyone is entitled to bodily autonomy, women and men alike.

I was, however, taking about sexist jokes. Can you tell me about a misandrist joke you've heard or link me to a website / video where someone makes a misandrist joke that makes fun of men based on some shared negative perception of men / "manly" attributes?

I don't see anything sexist here, or anything that required an apology. It was a joke, and that's it.

I can't link you to a website, because its not the thing I go looking for on the INTERNET, but it does happen I assure you it has happened to me, not lately though (maybe its a sign I should get back into shape), and no I can't remember them, its not something that bothered me enough to commit to memory.

Have you never seen a commercial? Men are doofuses who can't figure out anything without a woman. They will go to great lengths to preserve the facade that they know what they're doing when it's transparent that they haven't a clue. It may be a disingenuous position to compare the sexism against men to the sexism against women when we live in a patriarchy that generally favors the man, but to say it doesn't exist against men is wrong.

Everybody is missing the point where Priestly and Felicia Day know each other and are friends.

Not really, no. I have worked, studied, dated and been friends (and still am) with several men who have treated me like a human being in stead of a walking pair of boobs. This is not an impossible task, and I honestly wonder why men don't feel insulted by the implication that they lack any level of self-control.

Why let context get in the way when you can just exagerate the facts to use as a soapbox for unrelated stuff.

Speaking of which, from this tweet, I can guess that a topless tallis will be appearing in the next dragon age game.

Semi-confirmed rumor.

It was a joke however other people could see it hence it was inappropriate to tweet. I wonder how many times people will hit Priestly over the head with this once he resumes his duties as a moderator.

Whaohohoho. We don't live in a patriarchy which favours men, that's buuuullsh*t. If we live in a patriarchy then on average men are getting one hell of a short end of the stick. We live in a society where a specific section of society gather a large amount of power and wealth, the fact they happen to be men, doesn't help the rest of the men lower down the social ladder, they're just as screwed as the other sex, in some cases worse.

Cool story, Then why do you care what chris had to say??? And why aren't you still with these men who treated you so well?. Past tense I just assume you're not with them.

Men have testosterone which by it's very nature takes away self control.
A few months back I got a 48 hr ban for a joke I made on a thread . The mod Schumaker said I was trolling. I felt I was treated unfairly. So yes I am enjoying Priestly's present difficulties .If that sound vindictive on my part....smiles and shrugs.

We do. While it's a quaint idea that the only thing that matters in life is class and other factors like gender and race are irrelevant, culture is modeled after those at the top and designed to perpetuate their example. So we see that the privilege pervades all levels of social stratification. Just because some men are bitter failures does not change that on a whole.

Sooooo I think we're missing some context here. What was Felicia's response? That's kind of an important factor in determining if it was out of line or not.

What is this.. I don't even.

If you don't think that's important, I have nothing to say to you, because clearly any and all words will be wasted.

Yeah, I'm with Billy on this one. The 'patriarchy' is a myth.

Historically speaking, there hasn't been a debate going on whether men are less smart than women, and men (as in, the whole gender) haven't been historically excluded from higher education or science and academia, for example. Context matters.

In addition, most of these commercials you are talking about (that I have seen at least) have usually involved housework of some kind -- dish washing, laundry, etc. -- which kinda plays into the whole "See? Men are not meant to do chores!" -mentality, which isn't exactly the hight of misandry, since this is often an excuse which used to explain why women have to do the majority of housework, even when they too work full-time. This seems to be a trend: even when we see negative portrayals of men, it is usually in the context of status quo: men might not know a vacuum cleaner from a dish washer, but they have no problem working as a surgeon or a hedge fund manager! This might be because there aren't any stereotypically negative "male" / "masculine" qualities that societally work against men (ie. there's no "matriarchy" to oppose the patriarchy*), but the same cannot be said of women, which is why sexist jokes about women are a bigger problem.

*althought you could argue there's some really iffy societal perceptions going on with men who choose a career in a historically female-oriented field, ie. working with young children etc., but IMO that is again more about how men who exhibit "feminine" characteristics can't be "normal".

So, the tax loop holes which are of benefit to the rich are counted across the board to all men? Conscription, family court decisions, child support decisions, visitation rights, spending on cancer research and screening. All these are towards the benefit of men are they? It's a quaint idea and blinkered to suppose that money has no say. If it was a Patriarchy then money and social status would mean little, unfortunately as much as some might wish it to be it's not the case.

That's the thing about feminist ideology that I don't buy. That every problem in society is really, if you do great feats of mental acrobatics, targeted to maintain some negative gender role for women. Not everything is about women. Sometimes it's genuinely just saying guys are dumb ****s. And that's not OK either.

You have completely misunderstood what the term "patriarchy" actually means.

So because there is this thing that benefits a social class indiscriminately, all of the benefits that do discriminate with respect to being a man do not exist. Interesting.

Conscription, family court decisions, child support decisions, visitation rights. All these are towards the benefit of men are they?

No, those tend to favor women probably. I don't recall saying society was pro-male in every single respect.

If it was a Patriarchy then money and social status would mean little

Nope
