I don't mind Never Winter online, it's alright. But I would have prefered it come from Bioware.Bioware could have made the game meaningful, with real choices and real consequences  Why isn't Bioware pissed at perfect worlds for making Never Winter online, Why isn't  Bioware going back to the old games like Baldur's Gate and the original Never Winter Nights and discussing what made these games so great to play and what kept people coming back to reply these games and then making it in to an MMO.Star Wars was alright, but it got really boring after level 40 and even more boring when starting new characters. With BG and NWN Bioware needs to reinvent or remake one or both of  these franchises. I don't know who owns the rights to Icewind Dale, maybe Black Isle still if they are even around anymore. I don't know. Back then games like BG and NWN didn't have the graphics that we have today and yet there was huge replay value in those games. Even though Biowar is hard at work on the next Mass Effect game (what ever Bioware is calling it) and DA3: Inquisition. I believe Bioware could make another MMO based on Baldur's Gate or Never Winter Nights. If Bioware can get the rights to Icewind Dale and IWD2 that would be an even better MMO. MMO based on the 10 towns of Faerun set in the forgotten realm, that would be a HUGE MMO, with endless possiblities. Bioware has the talent, skill  seen in many of their previous big hits e.g Mass Effect, Dragon Age Origins to create this kind of MMO. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Bioware reads these and really take a look at what made those so great.

Bioware doesn't have the right to produce D&D games. They couldn't make NWN or BG or IWD even if they knew they were guaranteed 1 billion units sold.

If Bioware doesn't own the rights to make D&D games like NWN , BG then why are they listing them both as legacy games??

I want to know why they have NWN and BG listed as legacy games if they don't own the rights to them. The original NWN was co-developed by AOL - Stormfront studios - SSI and TSR in 1991. Then Bioware made NWN in 2002. That is 11 years difference between releases, so who owns the rights?? I would prefer someone from Bioware to answer my question.

Hasbro does

Bioware is not going to talk to you here, or very unlikely, and if they tried, they probably do not know who owns what as it's VERY complicated. All they know is what they were told when hasbro and atari fought in court. ( the people that did NWN have new jobs, and the people that did NWN2 are a completely different company )

bioware is a horrible company and a sell-out. Thank God they have nothing to do with NWN2 or the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

Harumph!

You do realize that the Bioware games that you revere are the ones that were made before they were bought out by EA, right? The guys that founded Bioware, NO LONGER work there. Many of the people that worked on NWN NO LONGER work there.

Bioware is not the same company you remember. They are a part of EA and as such games made by them are going to suck...hard.

Neverwinter (or Neverwinter Online) has absolutely nothing to do with Bioware, Obsidian, or anyone else that made the previous Neverwinter Nights games.

Cryptic made NWO. Cryptic also got bought out by Perfect World and gutted. It isn't like they made top notch games before PWI bought them, but now they are an American arm of a Chinese company bent on milking any game they can through a cash shop.

Also, Bioware hasn't responded to any post in here since...oh wait...never. This is the NWN2 boards...

All that being said ( and i agree with the knocks on EA / Bioware that they are not as good as they once were, yet also that dragon age is a cool game even if it's not exactly the game i'd want to play myself )

If we had EA instead of Atari, the NWN2 game would likely still be developed as long as it made money, Hasbro would not have gotten stabbed in the back, and Obsidian could have spent as long as bioware did making Dragon Age, instead of doing a game greater in scope in less than half the time, not to mention they did their job and marketed Dragon Age unlike NWN2 which basically was ignored.

In fact when i see various Hasbro / EA games and I always think wistfully what could have been if EA were promoting things instead of Atari, not thinking they are perfect, but compared to Atari any crap seems wonderful.

As such, if someone from EA / Bioware / Hasbro / Obsidian ever does read this, yeah I'd totally like you to take on a project akin to NWN, which fulfills the original spirit by catering to both SP and MP, action and roleplay, player and DM, player and amateur developer. As long as Atari is not involved again...

Compared to Atari explosive diarrhea is a welcome occurrence.

Not a productive discussion.

End of line.
