The only thing that kind of Shepard could do is stay with the Alliance or continue doing Spectre work

I headcannon that Shepard eventually gets Hackett's job, in about 10-20 years or so. She might even become the next councilor.

There are several other cleanup problems that could demand Shep's attention, but I dig the idea of Shepard hopping between colonies and outposts as a pseudo-diplomatic problem solver (and it could play into both dutiful paragons and opportunistic renegades).

Start training other Spectres.

My Shepard recognizes the fame she has despite not really wanting it, and knows that her image, her persona, and what she means to the people of the galaxy, can be manipulated for other people's ends, and could also lead to people always looking to her to solve problems or inspire fear over how much she can accomplish with her influence.

So she basically recedes from having a big, active role in the galaxy and sort of settles down a bit more to teach what she's learnt and believes to others.

After making sure there are no big problems. Mediating between the krogan and the geth and the rest of the galaxy, making sure Cerberus is gone, seeing that a new Council is implemented and that the Terminus aren't being too aggressive, are all short-term goals.

He deserves a chance to put his feet up and live a quiet, private life. My Shepard wants to do that but would feel obliged to help out the rebuilding effort instead. Hopefully people will talk him in to doing something impressive and useful but less risky. If people decide to explore the dormant relays to get the galaxy back together quicker (my headcanon says that they weren't affected) he'd be good for that (and the Normandy a good ship for it).

I really don't think he'd want to be a councillor or ambassador but it seems likely that some people will try to persuade him to do that.

I already put this up in the Miranda group, might as well post it here too.

Ongoing secret conflicts and intrigue, both large and small.

Shepard will have disappeared after the war. Nobody knows where he is or what's become of him. Except of course the people he wants to know. He doesn't want anything more to do with the alliance or the Council. He blames them as incompetent, impotent idiots full of arrogance, hubris, and self-righteousness that practically served the galaxy on a platter to the Reapers. He has nothing but scathing disgust towards them and the leadership of the races.

And he knows old names of the past are still out there, along with new ones to give him, Miranda, their fledgling Cerberus project, and the galaxy more trouble.

What happens after Shepard rides off into the sunset? He goes back to work. Because now, besides having Miranda and their new Cerberus, they have more to worry about. The next generation of Shepard needs a safe galaxy to grow up in (though that won't happen for a few years). They've got that to worry about. Shepard and Miranda know that they're in it for life with each other, and they know that somewhere down the line, there's going to be a child. The galaxy needs some cleaning up and a nice big guard dog for that child.

The new Cerberus group is going to be much the same as before, this time being more of a silent watchdog group as well as operations and scientific group that will use the questionable and ethically dark methods of Cerberus to protect the galaxy at large from threats, old and resiliant, and new and unknown.

It's going to be a bit like Carmichael Industries, The Hand of Thrawn, and of course, the original Cerberus.

Was this too much to ask for as the final slide instead of the crap half-dead rubble scene? What BW did was a cop out.

I've got it.

1) Miranda will cause Shepard "security issues", but Shepard is still a Spectre, so you can continue that work. It does pay well, and there will be a lot of work after the war.

2) You could look up Aria on Omega and get into doing some work taking care of things.... all kinds of things -- assassinations, murder, drug distribution networks, gambling, that stuff around the Terminus Systems. That work pays very well, and is dangerous if your Shepard is into that sort of thing.

3) You could stay with the Alliance, but like I said Miranda will cause security clearance issues keeping you out of prime assignments. Your career will peak out at Captain.

4) You and Miranda could start up Cerberus again. Cerberus is an idea. You can't kill ideas. Cerberus: under new management. With Henry Lawson dead, Miranda and Oriana split Henry's estate which is a hell of a lot of money. There is this option.

By the way. I'm retired. I'm very busy. I find more to do now than I had when I was working. The difference is that what I do now I enjoy doing. Retirement is not about sitting back and kicking your feet up. You find creative things to do.

Shepard is going to need a few months off to reflect and deal with all the mental stress and strain. Shepard needs a vacation right now, then some therapy to deal with the PTSD, then learn how to cope with it and get back to living again. It's not something you can sweep under the rug.

Eh, my Shepard is incapable of getting PTSD. If anything, he's like Dr. Watson: He misses the danger and the adventure. Which is why he lives the life he lives. It's engaging.

After the end, Shepard and crew continue their adventures throughout the galaxy, righting wrongs, helping people in need, and being just badasses in general. High fiving while everything explodes around them.

Sit around on a beach and play video games.

Alternatively, continue rising through the Alliance ranks to Admiral. I specifically envision him become the head of the Alliance equivalent to the CIA or DIA (remember Admiral Greer in Hunt for Red October? Played by James Earl Jones in the movie?).

Or, you know, just become Emperor of the Galaxy. At this point there's probably nobodoy to stop him.

No, my plan was for Javik to become emperor of the galaxy.

Primitives don't get to be emperor.

Stay in the Alliance, but probably in a more ceremonial capacity. And volunteer at hospitals. Particularly in children's wards. It's hard to imagine the trauma the Reaper invasion would have caused. It might help to have Commander Shepard stopping by to read stories and tell them it's going to be okay.

Well, everything is gonna be guddam mess for a long time. I imagine crime bosses and warlords running amok. Different factions trying to take power and territory. Preying on civilians. Ack.

If it's like the fall of the Roman Empire and the descent into the Dark Ages...bad times ahead. And that would be small compared to the ruin after the Reapers.

Bad times that will sorely need a Hero.

If Shepard survives, I think it's a virtual certainty that Shepard becomes the next human Councilor. Even if Shepard doesn't particular want the job or feel very qualified for it, he (or she) is the hero of an age, and like George Washington for the US, the one truly non-political figure that all of humanity could agree on (and the rest of the galaxy would nod and say "Well of course...."). I frankly expect Shepard to stay in that role (as well as being a Spectre whenever possible) for most of the rest of his/her natural life. Who'd want to run against the Hero that Saved the Galaxy? For that matter what Prime Minister would sanction removing Shepard from being human councillor? None that I can think of.

Not only that but given how the Citadel has moved and how the existing order is in shambles, I expect that the council will quiety reorganize galactic government, and I think Shepard (and Hackett) would have a lot to say about that process. As part of that I expect that Rannoch (Quarians+Geth) would get at minimum an embassy and most likely a seat on the council. I can see the Krogan getting a mimimum of an embassy (if not a seat) as well depending on the genophage. I also expect to see some other body to better represent non-council races or at least some other concessions.

I expect that Shepard would be asked to be the point of all of this since he (or she) would be the one voice that would be listened to and respected by all. Given that, I wouldn't be at all suprised if the concil made some post like "General Secretary" or even "President of the Council" and made Shepard it's first appointee (someone to act as the executive face of the council).

Just a few of my thoughts.

It was Bioware's mistake to have Shepard live in the High EMS Destroy Ending anyways. There's now way Shepard is breathing in space and how Shepard survived the explosion of the crucible and the citadel.
