What side will you pick in the next Dragon Age game? Will you stand with the mages or templars?

In my opinion, both Dragon Age games so far have offered a slightly different perspective on the war between them. I found myself feeling the mages plight and supported "Mage Power" in Origins, and in DA2 I found myself feeling a little less than merciful towards the mages who succumbed to blood magic so easily and agreed the templars needed to get the Circle back in control so that Kirkwall might see order once again. While I did not agree with either Orsino or Meredith, I did feel the Chanrty should have stepped in.

Perhaps in DA: I there will be a third option, a way that we will not need to wholly support either faction.

I hope neither is an option.

And if it is, I hope I'm not going to end up helping one of them anyway.

I hope there is a "let's just kill the crazy people option." Meredith - crazy, needed to die. I'm sure the other templars would have agreed. Anders - crazy, needed to die. Problem solved.

Dragon Age 2 made me hate the two factions. At this point, I'm going to be neutral until something in DA:I convinces me to support one or the other (or neither). I just hope that this whole Mage/Templar War won't be the main focus of the game. As Varric said in DAII, "I'm sick of mages and templars".

Mages. But as Shasow says, I won't hesitate to kill any of the insane/murderous ones.

It's difficult to say without seeing the whole situation, as we don't know what DAI's story is.

Generally, I fight for the mages. I'm exclusively a mage player, which influences that, but I also think it's for humane reasons. HOWEVER, mages do pose a very real danger what with the presence of demons that could potentially possess a mage and turn their powers into uncontrollable weapons.

So at the end of the day (aka if I was in charge of Thedas), I would institute Circles that gave mages much more freedom but still sought to exert a level of control and oversight on them. Ideally, the watchers would be made up of both mages and non-mages. I would also make them secular, so as to avoid any issues of "MAGES ARE EVIL" zealotry. I don't necessarily think mages should have to live in a certain location, but maybe they should register or something. Or train there like a mandatory boarding school for 5-10 years or something and then they can go back into the world.

What I"m curious about is whether mages are fighting for COMPLETE freedom or reform. I am for reform. Letting mages do as they please all of the time? That seems like a stretch. They're a danger to others and themselves without proper training.

You do know whom I spared in DAO, then? lol. Yes, he survived, too.

Seriously, I played a blood mage in DAO who ran off with Morrigan. I've never been pro-Chantry, or pro-Templar. I'm siding with the mages.

I approve of this choice. This or "lets kill everyone!" are hopefully available.

I'm firmly pro-mage. People like to interpret that as support of violent anarchy.

Bioware should start selling bumper stickers that say that. A bunch of people wouldn't get it, but it would be hilarious.

The Circle system worked fine, and i think it was the best solution. The problem started when some templars no longer had to answer to anyone for their actions, so they could effectively abuse the mages if they wanted. There needs to be some reforms to ensure that abuses are correctly reported and deal with, and templars like Meredith who think that they can hold political sway should be discharged. The ruling political party should not be made of templars or mages, because they would be biased. Most of Kirkwall´s problems were because the templars ruled the city, while the viscount barely had any power.

By Aeducan's beard! I believe you have just solved all of our problems! I like the way you think....destroy the source before it becomes a problem.

Hopefully they'd make a Templar one and an "opinions are like testicles..." one too... =]

Which to reiterate my last post, sums up my feelings on the subject quite nicely.

I support the Templars, but with how both games has played out, I sided with the mages in both. I just could not bring myself to kill everyone base on a few bad people actions. In open war, I support Templars because I do not trust the mages enough to leave them without oversight. The Circle is very much needed. The Templars is needed to safeguard the Circles, but changes are needed in the system.

I hope there's a middle of the road option. I support additional freedoms for mages. Phylacteries for instance and the whole taken away almost at birth situation, I don't agree with. However, at the same time, I also don't believe they should be completely without some sort of oversight. They'd probably able to supervise themselves, but I'd like a slow transition to that.

I like what you've said, and I agree that changes are needed on both sides. Only question is: How are we going to get either side to see that?  Anders' plan obviously didn't work out quite the way we wanted (or maybe it did?).
