And what changes if you import a character? Or do you play a totally different one in DA2?

You can import a save game, but you play a different character in DAII. Some choices from DA:O affect quests and dialogues in II. Nothing really big, but a nice touch.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure importing save games is going to be from DA:O to DA2 to DA:I. You won't be able to do a DA:O to DA:I import
