Oh how wimpy we are! From mission start it has been AI abuse all the way through. But this particular area is an arena with no rooms, 2 scions, and armored husks. I know how bad it was to choose Kasumi and Mordin, just looking for guidance to a possible win before restarting and picking Garrus and Grunt.

I'm a Vanguard with Barrier. I send Kasumi and Mordin on top of the platforms away from the scions, husks have trouble getting up. It's up to me to distract while my teamates help me from their spot. If only I could order them to attack a single foe with weapons only so that I can have them whittle the scions with incinerate and shroudstrike or what it's called.

Death is guaranteed with any mistake from me. I've learned I can adjust my view in the power screen if I use mouse button 2, but haven't been successful in cheating with it. Any dirty trick I am willing to use. Got close to killing one scion. Trying to conserve my 6 medigels, because there will be 3 more waves including Harbinger and his Harbinging pals. And then meet Kaiden.

Tips / abuses / dirty tricks?

I watched the video that RedCaesar showed me in my other topic. Learned to 100% from point blank range. My Eviscerator holds 12 shots, Terminus Armor should have given me more ammo.

If you are having trouble chaarging around in the open, try to pick your spots and charge at enemies near cover, so you can kill them then take cover.

Mass Effect 2: Vanguard Charging 101 (Insanity Guide) by thataveragegatsby.

Horizon is one of the tougher fights in the game. I find the husks the most dangerous here since they will knock you out of cover and into enemy fire.

sinosleep also has a Beginner's Guide to the Vanguard guide that may help you as well.

If you are using Kasumi, and if you have completed her loyalty mission, then her Flashbang Grenade is key. You will want to throw that at enemies before charging. It will stun or stagger most enemies, and will render Harbinger completely harmless for about 20 to 30 seconds or so.

I prefer Mordin for his Cryo Blast for most Shepards, since it has a 4.5 second cooldown at rank 4, and will stagger most protected enemies and freeze unprotected enemies. Good for getting yourself out of a jam.

As for Grunt, I think Grunt is the worst squadmate in the game, although some players really like him. I just fins that he is not as tanky as some people make him out to be, and other squadmates will give you Incendiary Ammo and Concussive Shot.

Also, try searching YouTube for "mass effect 2 vanguard horizon" to see how other people did it if you are still having trouble.

Good luck.

Kasumi and Mordin are a stronger squad for Horizon than Grunt and Garrus really. But you have to have them leveled.

Mordin should prioritize Cryo Blast, as Red said, then you can work on getting his Incinerate up to Area.

Kasumi's best power is Improved Flashbang, by a whole lot actually. It doesn't do much of anything to Scions though, but it can instakill the Husks.

If you have Stasis as your bonus power, from LotSB, you can abuse the glitch where enemies take more damage as they fall out of stasis. This makes fighting the Scions a lot easier.

I can't get on youtube right now for some reason, but typically I like to do most of the initial fight from the platform to the left of where you enter. Position a squad member at either side and use their powers mainly to make sure no husks get up there while you fire at the Scions.

One challenging thing to do in Horizon is taking Jack and Miranda (or Jack and Jacob) with you. Sure, your are trully fu*** with this setup and have to do most of the fight alone, since Jack isn't the most durable member of the gang.

But you gain a ton of funny and interesting dialogs. ;) LOL

Jack and Miranda are one of the most powerful squad combinations to take on Horizon...

Jack has Pull on a reduced recharge speed, which combines with Miranda's Warp to inflict the most armor/barrier/physics damage you can inflict in a wide detonation radius. Meanwhile Shockwave trivilizes husks, topples weaker enemies, staggers and damages elites with barriers out of cover, shatters Collector Guardian hive shields, and destroys explosive objects in the terrain...all at the same time.

Miranda is the only team member at this point with Warp, her passive skill gives more surivability, and as mentioned above her biotics combine with Jacks to create Warp explosions. Meanwhile Overload allows for effective use of explosive terrain objects to damage enemies.

In both cases your squad will have heavy weapon damage against Collector's barriers due to access to the SMG and Shotgun Shield Piercing upgrades.

In terms of the Scion, Husk, and Praetorian battle their talents are divided into separate tasks rather than in creating combinations. Jack's role is to deal with Husks with her crowd control powers while Miranda is there to inflict power damage on heavy enemies.

The only thing comparable to this set up would be Jacob and Miranda, since Jack does not yet have an ammo power.

Really the most important thing about your squad on Horizon is taking Garrus so he can say "Damn it Williams, you're so focused on Cerberus you don't see the real threat." :)
