So u say there are to much male space Marines I can only name 2 others Master Chief and Marcus Fenix. Anyway I made a male character first then a female character second in fallout 3 and newvegas and the elder scrolls games.

It's not just the very specific space marine trope; action games these days are full of grizzled action man protagonists; from Call of Duty to Uncharted to Bioshock: Infinite to Splinter Cell and many, many more. Even Bioware is not immune, with Dragon Age 2 starring a grizzled bearded male Hawke by default.

It's just publisher over-cautiousness motivated by rising development costs, really, and I do understand both sides of that phenomenon. On one hand, publishers want their games to sell, while on the hand, some gamers just want a change of scenery once in a while.

I'm more relaxed about these things. Like I said, I tend to play female characters out of tradition.

It's the good old "why would you want to stare 60 hours at a male butt?" argument, of course. :D

Not really, just wanted to see what's different and of course, have different Shepards :)

Why wouldn't you want to stare at a male butt for 60 hours?!

Well I guess the question wasn't really directed at me (as a straight woman) - but the reasons are probably similar as to why a dude would want to play a chick.  Heheh, but.  Anyways:

1. Agree with -> To see what's different

2. Especially in a 3rd person cinematic game like Mass Effect (or another example where I have mostly male characters, Old Republic) I'm not pretending I'm Shepard or whoever.  They are a character I'm watching.  Only difference between games and something like a movie or a book, is I have influence over the story.

Quality of voice acting and how well I think a character fits the story also influence what gender I pick in RPGs.

Because most are perverted teens or fruit cakes. Femshep sounds monotone and boring she has no emotion at all and sounds masculine. Male Shepard sounds better. Also male protagonist are more badass

I agree :)

So then this whole post is just for trolling? Fantastic

That's pretty much it. Playing a male or female Shepard is like reading an Honor Harrington or Miles Vorkosigan story.

I was going to start a male smuggler as my first SWTOR character, but I ended up choosing the female character because, while I like the male smuggler voice, the female smuggler is just full of snarky awesome.

(Still rolled up a male smuggler. I predict much hilarity will ensue when he tries to woo Risha.)

I'm not trying to troll I'm just saying if you only play FemShep  because of lesbian scenes than your basically saying you don't care about the story. Perverted reasons are just not a good reason, I can at lest admit I'm a pervert some what ( I have a huge obssession with Kate Upton) but in the end I simply play as Male Shepard because 1. Shepard seems more of a male role 2. I'm a guy  3. I like numerous of Hale's other works but In Mass Effect 2&3 she kinda had no emotion whatsoever 4. My favorite Romance is Tali
