The footage being "in engine" means nothing. They can easily use the FB3 engine to make Blur-style cinematics just like any other modern engine. There's pretty much no chance the game will look that good, especially so being a cross-gen title.

"Pretty much no chance" Idk seeing the difference of graphics from Oblivion to Skyrim with a change of engine is quite a big thing. Seeing as how Dragon age Origins and 2 were on the same engine and the second ones graphics were better, Id say that with a switch of engines, BioWare should be able to make it look just about as good as that,

No upcoming game looks as good in-game as that Inquisition trailer. Do you honestly think BioWare are making the best looking game we've ever seen? And that it's Dragon Age?

Great trailer. But you got me worried:

1- You showed no real in-game footage, but the game should be in development at least since one year ago. At this point you should be pretty far down the road of development. Moreover you posponed the release date to fall 2014. Before it was 2013. All this makes me think that at a certain point you scrapped everything you were doing and restarted from scratch. If that was the case it is not a good sign.

Dragon Age: Origins was in development for five years, I believe. They're likely not showing gameplay yet not because they can't, but because their marketing department wants to spread the reveals throughout the time between now and fall 2014.

That ^ also they wont want to compete with the Witcher 3 which is launching this year.

Don't know guys. In business you can't wait 6-8 moths to monetize an investment just because you don't want to compete with your direct competitor. Moreover if facebook fans mean something than Dragon Age has 5 times more fans than The Witcher. If these two games launched toghether Bioware would crush CD Projekt, at least market-wise.

As far as development time goes I know for shure that standard videogame development cycles last 18 to 24 months. Longer cycles just mean that the high level designers (2-3 people at most) were at work on the project more than two years before the release. Be shure though: it was just paper-work and brainstorming. And let's be honest: two years are enough to create a great single player game if you have clear ideas, you don't screw up and don't need to start back from scratch.

So: if this was a standard development cycle Dragon Age 3 should be in its content creation phase. All the systems should be up and working, including combat, dialogues and all that jazz. But since:
1- We didn't see any in game system working in the E3 trailer.
2- Bioware recently announced they were changing the game engine (switching to frostbite).
3- The release has been greatly delayed (we are talking about more than a year).
4- Bioware was making "creativity weeks" and brainstoms about Dragon Age one or two months ago.
I'm pretty shure that something went bad and this game was restarted during the last months.

I get your point. DAO was in development for 5 years im assuming because it was a completely new IP? DAI does seem an age away but i can be patient. Reason why i mentioned not competing with the Witcher had nothing to do with profit margins and i wont derail this thread by getting into it. If Bioware had to go back to the drawing board to ensure the end product is up to their own expectations then good on them :)

Theres no reason that I shouldnt think that. And usually youre right, they dont look as good. But as I said with the change of engines it may look just about as good as the cinematics, you cant make certainties in your head. Its bound to change going what I think, or what you think. We will see.... :P

And I have never expected BioWare to have the shiniest. Never been their focus or draw for the fans. Sucks we don't have more to go on but there is plenty of time.

Time I am sure you will spend complaining about everything and anything possible. Then buy DA3 anyway.

Not Skyrim style, just larger areas and more openness to them.

Thank you Allan, from the bottom of my heart for answering this. It was my BIGGEST concern about the game. I didn't think it would be as good with that level of infinate "where am i going!?!?!". Thank you.

Another point to the hopelessness of Bioware marketing

I think you guys answered my questions thanks. I am not a visual person, So I couldn't tell the difference between the art, as far as I can tell that was how it always looked from origins, but I just am not good at that.

So if the game DOES look like the trailers it would be a big thing? If so faith restored in Bioware. I couldn't tell it looked good, I can enjoy graphics to some extent but more on what it shows than how. I know a lot of people adore graphics and if it would be amazing to them, I realize I am in the vast minority and can understand how it would live up to surprising us and wowing us like they said.

After seeing this trailer...man I need the game haha I'll be patient for it, fall 2014 is pretty good, they'll be able to do some tweaks and it'll obviously be out for new consoles, I assume we'll know more tomorrow.

I want Inquisition to be amazing. If it actually did look that good I would be thrilled. But I'm also a realistic person. I'm putting the chances of the gameplay looking as good as the trailer at about 0.01%.  BioWare has never made a game with cutting edge, system-grinding graphics. Inquisition is cross-gen. This is the team that made the brownest, muddiest nation in all of gaming and filled a city with thousands of 32-bit, large-breasted corpses.
Don't get your hopes up.

I think Varric will have matured and changed dramatically just like Anders in DA2. Anders didn't care about anything in DA:A, but in DA2 he became the one who basically started the Mage rebellions.

I think Varric will simply be trying to fight the orders of chaos, as they have been called. I mean, who wouldn't want to fight for order and stability (given that the person in question is good hearted) in times of war?

Why not Aveline then. That scenario fits Aveline more so then Varric.

1. It's actually possible for Aveline, unlike Varric, to die in DA2, so Varric's much easier to work into the plot.

2. Varric makes much more of an impact. Aveline's forever the stern, but caring guard captain, protecting the innocent and upholding the law no matter what the costs. To see her mouring so many deaths is, like you said, fitting, it's what people expect of her. Which is why it doesn't have the same emotional impact as having Varric, the charming rogue who never wanted to be dragged into this conflict in the first place, looking over the battlefield with such a desperate and worn expression. It shows just how much of an impact the catostrophy has on everyone in Thedas, not just the brave or powerful

I want to say to all the DA3 Devs from the E3 trailer and I have to say thank you so much for giving us a look at the game I am stoked and want this game. Is it bad for me to toss money at the screen hoping I had it? Hehe I hope to see more in the coming months on UI and other nifty things that will really make me excited for the game! Thanks Bio *hug* I am proud to be a loyal fan to Bioware you guys rock!

Of course you want it to be amazing who wouldn't? But if it turns out to be everything you hate you still get to "rub it in BioWares face" Its a win win for you and the typical damned if they do damned if they don't for BioWare.

Nothing about being realistic there. Realistic is being on the BIoWare forums for over a decade and never once seeing the draw of their games being uber graphics.

Also 0.01%? What would that make it look like a Atari game? Drop the typical hyperbole.

If Inquisition is awful then that will be my last BioWare game and I probably won't ever post here again.

I dont know about anyone else that read that.... But that sounded really pessimistic to me I mean.... "0.01%" Wow way to show some support there fella. Good work. I hate to break it to you but you make it sound like youre a pessimist.... No where near a realist..

I would think the difference in graphics between xbone & ps4 would be mild at best. You should be thankful your getting DAI on arguably one of the most powerful engines to surface in the past 5 years.

An it sort of looks like a Grey Warden's HQ

Are you sure? I'm positive that of all the companions in DA2, Aveline, Varric and Isabela are the only ones who cannot die. Avs and Izzy can both abandon you, yes, but as far as we know they don't perish.

Anyway. Varric is simply the more popular character of the two. More people like him.

Yeah, and I think it fits; the Anderfels is a desert, I'm pretty sure, and that screenshot seems desert-ey to me.

I am always amazed at the number of people who cannot tell the difference between in-engine rendered footage and in-game footage.

Next you are going to tell me the Mirror's Edge video must be the final product because it too claimed to be using the engine...

The vast majority of what we just saw were cinematics created via the engine.

Personally, I doubt that DA:I (way to drop the III to further distance yourself from it being part of a trilogy btw...) even exists in a presentable Alpha format at this point let alone a polished Beta or post-Beta format that is ready to provide in-game footage.

I disregarded that section of your post because it had no relevance. I never said or even implied that BioWare games have been graphics-focused.
