Cool trailer, but why was Varric present? I can understand Cassandra and Morrigan, but Varric? Seemed like simple fan service.
We'll find out in time. He is an important connection to the previous game. His scene might have happened at Kirkwall too or wherever he is residing now.

Because Varric is the link to Hawke I believe.

So what war Morrigan was talking about? Orlais is now under attack from the darkspawn?
An ancient evil returns, hint: a DLC we played before.

Makes sense, like I'd imagine the Wardens would know the whereabouts about the Warden from Origins. Or Alistair would know.SphereofSilence wrote...

I love sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! LOL
Seriously, THIS is the best Morrigan and hopefully this is what she will look like when this series goes Next Gen exclusive. DON'T YOU DARE KILL HER OFF, BIOWARE!!!
Sacred Ashes Morrigan looks like she was always smelling something horrible.

Hmm...this that fortress that was getting bombarded in the trailer?
Weishauppt, I imagine...
Nay. Adamant, Grey Wardens took it as their fortress, I'm quite certain.

It's simple really.
The purpose of 'The Fires Above' trailer is to emphazise that no one is safe--as Morrigan states that "None shall be untouched by the fires above". It's not only people who are involved in the conlict that ensues in the game, but everyone will be affected by it. Varric represents the neutral ground, who played the voice of neutrality in DA2. Throughout dialog with Varric in the game, you learn that he doesn't criticize the party members for the aligment, and he states in one party banter that he has friends on both sides (Templar / Mages).
The Varric scene in the trailer relates to his character, and is a way to show what those not directly involved in in the conflict will be touched by it as well--deat and missery will be present no matter what.

Cassandra's map is the map of Orlais. Alistair mentions that the Wardens have a place in Orlais in Origins when you ask him about where the other Wardens are at. I also thought it'd be Weishauppt but then someone took a snapshot of the map.SphereofSilence wrote...

Or they could be in the Anderfels but just mistakenly have a random map of Orlais where all the factions' bases are at. xD:lol:

With that, we have mentioned 3 potentially returning heroes. There is another.

Perfect, I tried to explain this exact same point earlier, but you did a much better job of it.

I agree, I think her jaw being a bit "bigger" then in DA:2 is fine. Makes her look more human then having that..sunken , scrawny looking face. I think everyones used to the females having really tiny faces then actually looking more realistic.carine wrote...

I love new Cssandra. She looks like warrior not girl from Vogue.
I agree. I love her new look.
She looks strong and confident
I'm definitely with you guys. Cassandra in DAII just looked pretty generic to me. I like her new look because she looks intimidating but still recognizable...
Also idk I just really like her new face
I approve of everyones change.

Well said!
This is the reason why Varric was my favourite and the only really good character in DA2. He is friendly, loyal, funny, has awesome background and unlike other companions he doesn't complain every 5 seconds. Makes me glad they decided to include him in the game.

Hmm, well when you put it that way, it does make some sense. Him being neutral and all. Thanks for clarifying Chewin!

Well it was the reason Flemeth sent her along originally and she seems to have a plan ... of sorts
