Forced Deathblow mod... what setting would you choose?

One of my favorite mods is the Forced Deathblow mod. Just to be sure you know, a deathblow is one of those fancy fatality animations you pull off FAR to rarely (except on biggies like Ogres.)

It has four settings

1. Deathblow ALL- This forces a deathblow on almost every single melee kill. You'll be chopping off heads and goreing people left and right. Of course deathblows do leave you open, meaning, this mod prob isn't to smart if you want to play on the highest difficulty. BUT I do find it the most realistic, as a visual kill of the enemy just makes more sense and looks more real then them falling like a sack of potatoes... in the same animation each time.

2. Deathblow Lieutenents- Only the higher ranking enemies (I beleave orange and up) are forced into deathblows. This is perfect if you want more deathblows, but don't want to over do it or leave youself open, and is perfect for making those really really tough battles feel more rewarding as you lop the head off the guy that made you restart five times!

3. Deathblow Lieutenents PLUS- Does the same thing as deathblow lieutenents, but also increases the chance of getting deathblows on lesser enemies without forcing them. Think inbetween 1 and 2.

4. No deathblows- There will still be deathblows agianst Ogres, Dragons, and the like (I don't think you can turn those off), but there will be NO other deathblows. If your one of those hardcore gamers that don't like deathblows leaving you open, obviously this is for you. For all intent and purposes this is pretty much the opposit of 1, 2, and 3.

So I was fairly curious which option would be more popular amongst the humble forum goers of this site (whether you used it or not.)

Oh yeah, heres the link to the mod

And thank you Machdelta for providing a mod right up my ally!

I chose the "Lieutenents" version. I wanted the animation to happen more often but on the other hand I didn't want it to to become monotonous either. I've been pretty happy with that version.

I use "All", Fallout 3 spoiled me with so much gore. I was sad to see that finishing blows were so rare in DA.

And yes, <3s to the creator, you are awesome. :D

I use all. I simply like the variation in animations :D

The game is so easy on normal difficulty that the added time doesn't really hurt me.

I would choose #4, turning off the deathblow animations. Man, I hate those things. If they didn't interfere with combat that'd be fine but it's like doing your touchdown dance before making it to the endzone and then getting tackled.

Still, I don't intend on changing the current behaviour, but I'd love it if Bio would fix how combat proceeds during a deathblow animation.

I wonder if "slowing" time like during the ogre/dragon/broodmother  deathblows is possible in other deathblows too..

Bullet time galore! :D

I don't use it, because I do occasionally like to see the death blows as they do look cool (but I disagree on them being realistic). Anyway, to answer the question, I'd chose option 4 to turn them all off. I find it annoying to be trapped in the middle of these cinematic death scenes and unable to turn to foes that may be about to kill you. If we could break out of them to attack other foes we are in melee with, I might like them more. But I find few things more frustrating than killing your opponent but dying yourself because the game forces you to do some fancy kill move while still being attacked,

Well, I didn't mean they in themselves were realistic. Have you seen the two-handed deathblow where you spin around and impale the guy all dramatically? And the beheading deathblows don't so much behead as the do explode your enemies skull.

I think it's more realistic in...
A. It appears to take more effort to take down enemies as opposed to them just falling over after an akward two handed swing.
B. Diffrent death animations lead to a much needed variety then the fall of death animation.. having all enemies die the same excat way kinda sucks me outta the moment.
C. The corpses strewn across the battle field at the end of a fight aren't lying in the same god damned way.

Nothing like fighting two ogres and an emissary, getting the killing blow on one ogre thereby taking yourself out of the fight for a minute and a half.

Allistair: Hey rogue dude. How's about a little help with this fireball slinging darkspawn here.

Me: Sorry can't right now. I'm too busy doing pirouettes around this long-dead ogre corpse.

Aha, OK, I understand your point now (I really need to get some sleep).  And I do wish the heads didn't vanish whenever you behead your opponent.

I chose Lieutenant mode, as I read, while you do it, you can still be hurt by enemies, and doing it All would leave you vulnerable.

lol why do people chime in with the omfgwtfbbq deathblows are lame because i lose combat time!!1

seriously I play this game for the atmosphere and therefore I love deathblows as do alot of people nobody forces you to use this mod. Though I question what you get out of the game is seeing those big damadge numbers really so important ?

I like the death blows but i do not use a mod for me it is about trying to be the one to land the blow, it is kind of a mini game for me. I like to try and out duel my party member saving the heavy duty finish move for when the enemy is close to death trying to time it just so, when you snag one from a party member it is awesome! I do not begrudge anyone who uses the mod to each his own, but i like to earn them and even if they do not show all the time they maintain that special quality so when you get one it is a woohoo moment that having them trigger on demand would kind of diminish.

I think I have it on the all setting. it doesn't even trigger all the time, as you might expect. but yes, the animations are nifty and even on hard, I haven't really been screwed over by the time the animations take. it gets annoying when you trigger it on a 2H-er and there's still like 5 hurlocks nibbling at your shins, though.

Deathblows LT Plus is fun and adds some cinematic appeal to the game. Even with the mod the Deathblows do not ALWAYS fire so they don't get monotonous anyway.

I enjoy the Deathblows. So they take me out of the fight for a little bit, so what? I'm not some soulless min/maxer.

I have LT Plus but am considering switching to all. It still seems pretty random but maybe the all setting would be too much, hard to say. Maybe next playthrough I'll have a better feel for how much I can tolerate.

Deathblow all, definitely. Nothing cooler than cutting your enemies head with a great sword.
