It looks like a deer head with crazy antlers. Not Grey Warden related, which just makes things more confusing.Tiguaje wrote...

Ignoring the ocotpus, am I the only one seeing a demon head with a sharp nose and very pointy teeth?

So is it pre-rendered or is it frostbite? Enough of these shenanigans.
It's in-game assets and in-engine. Generally, when people refer to a "CGI trailer", they mean something that was created by an animation studio-- usually not on a game engine at all (such as stuff Blur makes). Technically it's all CGI.
If that seems like a big jump in fidelity... well, it is. New engines will do that.
I suggest remaining skeptical until you see gameplay footage. Healthier, I imagine.
i think i speak for every one when i say "we would LOVE actual gameplay footage"
"now, how bout now? right now, now!"

My impression would be that the "open world" will more end up being that, say, DA:O would have had one big Ostagar area, one big Denerim area, one big Brecilian forest area, one big Deep Roads, rather than splitting them up into bits. Which wouldn't have major pacing issues or really cost very much more zots.
Though I personally wouldn't want that. I think the area transitions can help give a sense of scale, by implying that there's more stuff that was simply skipped over because it wasn't really relevant to the story.
I agree that transitions can help with a sense of scale. Unless we went with a more uniform setting, I think it'd be a negative to have very different climate setting all within the same map.
The sense of scale was part of the motivation for still having separate levels.
Which I think is a good thing, at the end of the day. Look at Skyrim, which is still HUGE for a game, but doesn't really give you the feeling that it's an entire nation when you run across all of it in about 5 minutes.

I was thinking maybe a stylised tree. Sort of like the City Elf tree symbol from Origins
edit: Someone pointed out in another thread, the flag near the Qunari looks like it could be a Sabrae clan emblem. With some extra crossed Dar'misaan

Why does that creature have an octopus on its head? (Sorry. I'll show myself out of the thread, again.)
Also - is that dragon Flemeth? Same colour and horns?
Nah, Flemeth has 5 horns that one only has 2. My guess is either a good ol' High Dragon or an uncorrupted Old God. Thanks for the pictures Tiguaje!
Actually, now that I notice it, the helm the person on the DragonAge.com page is holding has a dragon head on it that is similar to the Dragon you see in the trailer. Hmmm...
At Your Service... right now i'm watching the Trailer, again and again...

I was afraid it could be Merril...
But Varric would be upset with just about anyone he knows dying and he knows everyone! It could be just the waitress of the Hanged Man, that one he likes.

If you look closely at the 'no horns' picture, you'll see the dragon has pushed its head fully forwards and flat to roar. The horns are still there, they're just now parallel to the line of its neck. You can clearly see one pointing back towards its body in the image.
All I can say about the distinctly corrupted-looking dragon is that it looks like its either suffering from demonic possession, or the darkspawn have been at it. Neither are particularly comforting options if you happen to be Orlesian!
Now, I'll freely admit that trailer videos don't set me alight for the game ahead. Except...erm...this one actually did. Am definitely looking forward to seeing more of what's to come from DA3 now. I'm not ruling out future epic rants if it turns out to feel like Kirkwall Adventures all over again, but for no immediately obvious reason this video has managed to flick a switch that reminded me that, at heart, I'm still a huge fan of Bioware and the DA series.
It hasn't made me forgot just how much I disliked DA2, I'm not sure anything will ever do that, but it has given me the first glimmer of hope that this is a masterpiece in the works and not DA2 part deux.

Hmm... the spirit itself could be emulating the avvar possibly, or vice versa, or it is an avvar. I think the arcane horror in MotA was an avvar somehow, and the shade beneath Vigil's Keep. One would guess they became abominations a long time ago, though they may had have an understanding of magic that defies chantry convention... some piece of the puzzle we don't realize. The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

Does anyone have DAO installed and can take a screenshot of the "disturbing statue" at the very beginning of the Mage Origin? I feel like there is a likeness but I'm having a really hard time googling it for some reason.
The statue you're referring to is simply a poor man's emulation of an Avvar statue seen throughout the game. Remember, Fade spirits are godawful at imitating what they see in the real world.
Or it could be a new demon with no relation to the avvar.
My first thought was it looked like he had a headcrab.

Well, the little bit we got on the previous Inquisition suggests that it would end up with everyone having it in for you.
Which doesn't sound boring, at least.
