Looked great to me. Liked the visuals, liked the teaser contents. Thought the characters were instantly recognizable and well done.

I agree.  I liked the trailer.  It was just a teaser and that's what it did.  It was enough to get me even more excited for it.

Fade colliding with world... too much like Oblivion.

Dramatic focus on dragon descending from sky....too much like Skyrim. I mean I actually felt embarrassed showing this trailer to a videogame artist who never played the Dragon Age series, but who was a Skyrim fan, and had to explain to her that it wasn't really about dragons at all, in spite of its name. Not sure if she'll play it anymore because the trailer didn't really showcase what sets Dragon Age apart from all the other dime a dozen fantasy games - quirkiness, extraordinary storytelling, characters, and character relationships.

I know this is a harsh criticism, but Biowares' games are my favorite games in the world, so I don't want anything to go wrong and I want to promote this franchise to people who've never played it, so I hope it's worthwhile criticism!

EDIT: Since alot of people seem to believe that the triler is CGI: It is actual IN-GAME footage. It even says so in the beginning of the trailer.;)

In-game footage, that's CGI.

Actually, I've been reflecting on it more and I don't think that that 2nd line is awkward at all. I think it was awkward sounding enough to inspire reflection. Like using "untouched" instead of something like "spared."

I've decided trailer gets an extra thumbs up for me - because I'm now both more and less sure how the game will pan out.

Also assuming the protagonist does at some point wake up in the desert, which we know is the prominent landscape in the Anderfels where the Weissaupt Fortress is located, could the protagonist be somehow related to what seems to be happening there? Ex-warden, lost seeker left for dead perhaps?

I wonder if there's someone or something (Old Gods perhaps) is trying to punch its way out of the Fade.

The Magisters being lured to the Black City, Kirkwall being built to weaken a thin point in the Veil, and the Darkspawn's quest to answer the call of the Old Gods might all be related. Maybe the Mage-Templar War causes a series of events that cause the veil between the Fade and reality to tear.

Something I noticed that the castle being attacked has griffon statues. Make of that what you will.

CGI is typically used to denote pre-rendered footage, which tends to be used to...compensate for a poor graphical engine.

As for the trailer, I hated it. Hated it.

Am I the only one that noticed that the Seekers just declared war on the Grey Wardens in this trailer?

The trailer was certainly cut to suggest that.

Indeed.

I think the 'Warden assult' will be another Ostagar and the Seeker charge is at then end.

So is it pre-rendered or is it frostbite? Enough of these shenanigans.

It IS frostbite 3, it actually says so at the very beginning of the trailer.

It only says game footage. Technically the pre-rendered cinematics in FF8 (for example)were "game footage," right?

If the game looks anything like the trailer, I'll eat my PC.

I think it would be pretty disingenuous to say "actual game footage" while referring to pre-rendered footage, however. I'd bet that it is actual Frostbite rendering too. I suggest steak sauce for your PC.

No, they would be called CGI cutscenes.

If its game footage, that pretty much means thats what the game graphics will look like, or at least close to it.

Well, Chris said this:

It wasn't CGI. That was in engine footage.

If that's in-engine footage, how not?

Now, you do have a point in that they might not make the actual textures and such that...high res in the actual game (after KotOR, BW textures kind of really went south). So that might cause it to look "worse."

But it is absolutely POSSIBLE for it to look that good.

Also, pics or it didn't happen :P

It's in-game assets and in-engine. Generally, when people refer to a "CGI trailer", they mean something that was created by an animation studio-- usually not on a game engine at all (such as stuff Blur makes). Technically it's all CGI.

If that seems like a big jump in fidelity... well, it is. New engines will do that. :)

I suggest remaining skeptical until you see gameplay footage. Healthier, I imagine.
