I guess what I find a bit odd about the late release date is that these forums have been open for quite a while now and until this trailer hit, all we really knew was the title and Frostbite 3 engine. It all just seems a bit anticlimactic.

I remember (but could be wrong) the ME3 forums being opened right before the official announcement of ME3 + initial trailers.

Someone could post the link, that I don't have, but IIRC,  they made DA3 board as a result of the founders of Bioware moving on from the company and they wanted us to know that they were working on DA3 even with this change at Bioware.

They have already said they announced it a little bit earlier than anticipated because of the negative perception of the founders leaving the company.

I'm not really surprised. They changed the engine, there was criticism about DA2 being rushed and if it was more advanced we would have heard more about it prior to this time. Would have liked it earlier but at the same time happy to wait and happy to be given an ETA.

A bump of a year seems pretty major. I mean, it's basically doubling the time from when we first got the initial estimate.

(Though I'd guess DA:O had more dramatic scheduling bumps, even if they weren't public?)

I wonder if Jade Empire being released during a generation shift influenced the choice of pushing back the release at all. One of the Dr's mentioned that releasing Jade Empire during a generation shift was one of their bigger regrets.

Either way I'm happy the game is getting another year of polish.

Could well be a factor.

Inquisition is being released for both generations.

I think the regret there was releasing an Xbox game at the end of the Xbox's practical lifespan (Jade Empire would probably have fared better if didn't ship as a last-gen game).

They may have regretted not selling a ton more copies, but it was still a fine game, and I don't think it really suffered for its technical limitations.

What changed is they got a proper amount of development time to try and do the game justice. This is a good thing.

Nothing went wrong. Something went right.

And yet JE was still an incredibly awesome game, and it also plays perfectly fine on the 360 so I don't really understand any objection or perceived problem with it being original xbox. People who didn't play it or didn't know about it just didn't bother to open their eyes. I will always be sad that they don't plan to make another JE game. It seems like such a waste of the wonderful game world they established with Jade Empire. :?

As to DAI, I am very sad at having to wait another year and a half to be able to play this game, but it is what it is. I absolutely adored DA2 and played the heck out of it.  Apart from map reuse, I didn't have a single problem with the game and still don't understand all the criticism.

This fall 2014 business just sent my interest in this game from a 10 to a zero. Goodbye to these forums, I personally no longer care to hear anything else about this game. It shouldn't take four years to make this game amazing.

seconded. what exactly are these forums for again?  what's the point of throwing all these great ideas around if we have to wait another YEAR before we even get any info?

by that i mean, E3 2014 before we get anything else.

1 year wait since the letter. will be another year and another trailer:pinched:

You must not have spent a single hour on the Dragon Age forums, to not know about the major, major complaints about DA ][ being rushed.

As someone said, this is a GOOD thing for the game.

But, knowing people, and EA/Bioware "fans," they'll be whining about this one for months, even though they begged for it.

Yeah, this.

It wasn't that anything went wrong. The date was changed to make Dragon Age: Inquisition better by giving it the time needed to make it amazing.

Since when did they state that the next information piece they'll give us is at E3 2014?
Never.

There will be information coming out later this year. PaxPrime and Gamescom are coming up as well.

They announced it, because the doctors were leaving. They wanted to make clear, the game was still coming. And let's not forget about the leaked survey, which seems to be very accurate right now.

The reasons for this delay, in my opinions, are:
- BioWare 2 latest games: ME 3 and DA 2 weren't as well received as they expected. That's why they are going to play it safe, and spend more time polishing the game to avoid another massive rage from fans.
- Next gen. It makes sense that they would hold on to DA:I for now, and release it next year, on multiple platforms, include the new PS 4 and XBox One. Release it this year, just few months before those 2 would be unwise.

Since it's still over a year to go, it also makes sense that they showed just a little of DA:I in this year E3. Still, I was hoping for some game play demo. Oh boy, over a year more to go.

When a game is rushed and results in same map reuse; complain.
When a game takes additional time in development to iron out the many kinks and bugs; complain

Some of you are just neigh unpleasable self-centered people.

People are allowed to speculate. Asking questions doesn't make you self centered.

Just keep in mind that there are many aspects of game development and business that the general public can never know about because they haven't been a part of the process. Even one project under your belt can make a whole of things make way more sense.

Why do you think I keep participating in discussions and seemingly taking the company's side all the time? :)
