If one were to go by forum posters commenting on a character's initial reveal, Morrigan in DAO was beyond hideous. I recall a number of long topics over how giant her jaw was, how misshapen her lips were, how her shoulders were too wide and her body badly animated. Also, Merrill had enormous breasts, Isabela an impossibly masculine jaw and Leliana giant fish-lips which were impossible to look past.

Possibly people just like dissecting the appearance of female characters. I'm not sure. Maybe it's just something you get used to, or will never like simply because it's different. I suppose you'll find out eventually.

At the same time you shouldn't just discard everything thats said as nonsense though. Most posters in here with positive or negative responses agree that theres something not quite right with that jawline/mouth etc.

We absolutely will discard it, just as we discarded most of the nonsense posted about the other characters I mentioned.

That said, I imagine the looks of just about all the characters will undergo various amounts of tweaking as time goes on. Cassandra didn't look the same in initial DA2 trailers as she did in the game, as an example.

Then thats a little sad. This thread hasn't been filled with bickering or bitter responses of how you are the devil for whatever reason. Infact I'd say most of it has been positive. Not everything on this forum is toxic waste David.

Did I say it was? There is indeed lots of positive stuff being said about the trailer. Insofar as character appearances go, however, it's still subjective nonsense. As it always is. =]

On side note your comment "Possibly people just like dissecting the appearance of female characters. I'm not sure. Maybe it's just something you get used to, or will never like simply because it's different."... No, just no since it comes across to me that your implying misogyny.

Implying nothing. I'll state it outright: there is absolutely a mysoginistic element to the commentary on female characters. It's not specific to Morrigan, but has always been present when it comes to reveals on any female character in the game (and contrasts to the commentary on male characters)-- and I've been witness to enough of it over the years to make that observation. Yes, that is an opinion, but it is mine.

Does that mean one cannot comment on Morrigan without being a mysognist? Of course not. If you'd prefer to pretend the opposite, however, then I call BS.

Treating it as peoples preferences is fine but I think you could of put your points across much nicer and keep in mind you had a hand in fostering that type of discussion to begin with by way of large focus on romance in your games.

As you wish. Your opinions are all precious diamonds to us, absolutely, even the subjective ones. We will collect them in breathless anticipation, and view only the negative opinions as correct. Ideally, these will help us get the characters to the point where nobody could find any fault in their appearances whatsoever.

It won't be me doing that, of course, as I'm not part of the Art department, but don't let that stop you. Comment away. :)

Also is the sarcastic attitude really necessary David?

Sarcasm is always necessary.

For the record, I don't really care either way (especially since I never cared much for Morrigan). But this ridiculous "It's not us, it's you! You're just being MISOGYNISTIC!" is rubbing me wrong in a million and one ways.

That's what I'm saying, is it?

Sigh.

For the record, just go back and look at the forum commentary on various characters-- female ones in particular-- from previous games. Tell me how much you think those comments still applied once the game came out, and how much of it was just knee-jerk and/or outright ridiculous. All of it? Doubtful. Much of it? If not that, then wildly subjective in a way that doesn't lend itself to being useful to us in any manner.

Is it complicated by the fact these are returning characters? Sure. Doesn't change what I said, insofar as "commentary on appearances are highly suspect" goes. Does that mean all opinions are therefore invalid, and anyone who says something negative about a female character is a raging mysoginist? Only on the internet.

Feel free to make your opinion heard, if you like. Sounds great. I'll leave you all to it.

Seems to me you're slightly embittered from remarks made by people in the past. Yet let me remind you that we're not those people so why are you treating us as if we were?
I'll admit I've not read the entirety of this thread, and mainly just read your comments, but you struck me as awfully abrasive and arrogant concerning certain posts, conjuring up anti-female motives when they weren't suggested or even implied.

Eh, there were some comments in this thread that did make me go "That does not paint said poster in a particularly positive light."

I won't quote any because I'm not interested in calling people out, but I'll just say that to me, some of the posts seemed to indicate that Morrigan's lack of attractiveness has also compromised her character in other ways as well (which is an unpleasant thing to read, IMO).

Anyways...

As there is in all threads. They usually get ignored by the majority.

Those posts were silly, and were rightfully shunned by all.

But doesn't discount David's opinion either. Especially, since you seem to agree ("as there is in all threads"), even if you may disagree with the level of prevalence.

Also, please take note the specifics of the post I was replying to, as it provides context for why I stated my post.
