It looks like Morrigan but when I first saw her she looked odd. She looks older and uglier which is well to be expected when you age a decade or so.I don't like the beauty mark, but other than that I have no complaints (maybe her jawline is too big too). Varric looked the best, Cassandra the worst IMO.

I don't get the mole they added.  Things like that are distinctive.  She didn't have one before and now she does.  She mostly looked okay considering she is tired and haggard from the war and attempting to survive alone with a god-baby.  The clothing is probably a hint at Orlesian fashion but I see some scale armor hiding beneath.

I actually didn't recognize Varric at first at all.  The hair was all wrong, the scar took out the distinctive looking bridge of his nose and he isn't showing off his chest hair (sensible, but it all added up to a potentially different dwarf).  Bianca looked too thin as it moved in part of the scene.  It was more like a thin rifle barrel rather than the crossbow stock.  I had forgotten the crossbow folded up fairly neatly, but it still didn't quite look right.  So I thought it was a dwarf with a gun at first.  Too many changes for my taste.  He needs some hint of who he was for us.  If he took a scar, then the nose is out (almost literally), being in heavy battle, he needed a more protective outfit, so that's out.  That leaves the hair.  But more importantly, who was he mourning??!!

I thought Cassandra looked okay but wondered if it was Leliana at the map board.  The person in armor had red hair that had a fine braid encircling the back.

Not everyone will agree, but I don't like it. It's TOO much like DA:O Morrigan. After seeing Varric and the Qunari updated looks, I was dissapointed that she wasn't updated either. And I hate her dress; Morrigan original dress looked like something that got casually patched up in the wild, and it was awesome and unique. Now she's wearing an actual dress, as in with lace. Morrigan was attractive because she was wild and dangerous; that's not the vibe I'm getting here.

She's pushing mid thirties early fourties possibly with a ten year old kid. Why would she still be the same?

She's a witch of the wild. They have been shown to have no problem with being centuries old, yet still maintain the physique of an 18yo... it's one of the perks of the job.

Saying she's 30+ going toward forty? Flemeth is like a thousand year old.

When in Rome you do as the Romans do.  When in Orlais, you do as the Orlaisians do.

Male Shepard and male Hawke have wrinkles and expression lines. Their female counterparts don't have either of those things.
I'm talking about default appearances of course.

That's fair. However, I would maintain that there is no definitive standard for what a female must look like at 40.

Yes, but when you live in an era before plastic surgery, 40 year old women will have varying degrees of facial and bodily saggage. They won't look like Morrigan does in that trailer.

Don't agree with those who like Morrigan 's look. Think it's just people wanting to be positive about the game even if it means they're not being objective/impartial or using critical thinking.

You are a joke. How can one be objective and impartial when discussing something entirely subjective?

But is she just Morrigan ? Her face, her voice, she looks a little bit more like Flemeth now.

She's not Flemeth. And you might want to recall how Morrigan told you that Flemeth kept alive all that time. Her perk of the job was being Flemeth's next body.

One cannot discount this.
This is actually what I hope has happened.

Her voice does sound quite a bit more like Flemeth now.

+1 Approval

Flemeth's cycle is coming to an end, it is up to Morrigan to become the new Catalyst with her Starchild God-baby.

Maybe Flemeth succeeded and Morrigan is just a husk for her now. The rage of the Morrimancers would tear the fade irl.

I don't get how any of the three returning characters are even remotely unrecognizable. Especially Varric. *shrug*

I like the changes to Morrigan. Fact is, it was bound to happen with both chnage in art style and change in engine. Compared to the changes between Origins and 2 a lot of characters had, her changes here are almost nothing. She doesn't really look older, just.. realer, actually. FB3 is a wonderful engine. And yeah, I think its 100% improvement. Okay so the mole is new. So what? Elves are almost completely different, a mole is nothing.

Good. Stop right there. Lets wait to see more before saying anything else. You're judging a factor that requires a lot more information that what is given so I find the whole exercise of whether Morrigan's facial animation will be able to convey emotion pointless to raise as of this moment. =]

Look, I'll be honest with you. I love Morrigan, she is my main LI in DA:O and I didn't even give Leliana a second look (religious zealots don't do it for me), and I find her as one of the most interesting charecters in the series. That being said...

She is a pathological liar. She tells you repeatadly not to trust her. She always supports the most pragamatic, least altruistic path. After confessing that she decieved me the entire time, I pretty much assumed that everything she told me was a lie. I find it more likely that the reason she sends you after Flemeth is so she'll have complete control over the OGB. It align perfectly with her personality and how felmeth raised her.

You can say that my theory is purely speculation. I would reply that it's merely an educated guess, and that assuming flemeth tried to possess her without corraborating evidence is also specualtion.

Unrelated, the fact that we're getting companions post-Dragon Age 2 means we're likely going to be meeting everyone in theirs 30s-40s. I hope the protagonist isn't some 20 year old hero,

I'd like to actually have a protagonist which the game implies is older, I'm getting tired of making 40-50 year old protagonists to roleplay as a veteran but everyone refers to me as young.

Personally I think the did a good job on Morri, keeping her fairly close to the original. Personally I do think her mouth should be a tiny bit more pinched/narrow though, as it helped give her the arrogant expression I would expect of her. Otherwise her return is very, very awesome.

The thing is it doesn't matter if she's lying or not in relation to this topic. Whether or not Flemeth wants her body or not is irrelevant. What is relevant, is that she's not Flemeth. She does not share Flemeth's longevity. Being a 'witch of the wilds' does not give her any special perks aside from magical training.

My own personal theory is that Flemeth never wanted Morrigan's body as a replacement. She wants the OGB. Since it theoretically would be powerful enough to be the last body she'd ever need. But again, not relevant to this topic.

Morrigan would age. But if she refined her shapeshifting skills over the last decade, she could make all the 'adjustments' she wanted.

How she looks in the trailer is damn close to Origins. Maybe tweak the jawline a bit, but I thought she looked good. In regards to her dress, I think this conversation from Origins is entirely appropriate.

  • Leliana: You are very beautiful Morrigan.
  • Morrigan: Tell me something I do not know.
  • Leliana: But you always dress in such rags. It suits you I suppose. A little tear here, a little rip there to show some skin.I understand.
  • Morrigan: You understand I lived in a forest, I hope?
  • Leliana: Maybe we could get you in a nice dress one day. Silk. No, maybe velvet. Velvet is heavier, better to guard against the cold in Ferelden. Dark red velvet, yes. With gold embroidery. It should be cut low in the front of course, we don't want to hide your features.
  • Morrigan: Stop looking at my breasts like that. 'Tis most disturbing!
  • Leliana: You don't think so? And if it's cut low in the front we must put your hair up to show off that lovely neck.
  • Morrigan: You are insane. I would sooner let Alistair dress me.
  • Leliana: It'll be fun, I promise! We'll get some shoes too! Ah, shoes! We could go shopping together!

Also, I always thought of Morrigan being roughly in her mid 20s or at most late 20s during Origins. So I don't quite get the 'in her 40s' assumption some people have.  Alistair was an accomplished Warrior/Templar initiate and he was 20 during Origins.

Inquisition takes place ~15 years after DA:O. If she was mid-20's during Origins, she'd be coming up on 40.

I thought both Morrigan and Varric looked great in the trailer. Appearances change when you change engines. And since we're in Thedas with no botox, and it's established pretty well that even mages suffer the ravages of age, characters should look different over a decade.

I didn't read the comment myself but someone said the footage wasn't taken from the actual game. I remember how Morrigan looked in one of those in Origins. So don't put too much stock into how ANYONE looks. That being said, I don't really care much what Morrigan looks like.

All the characters in the trailer had a rather waxy appearance imo. They looked decent when in motion, but still shots of them aren't terribly flattering.
