I think the Morrigan artist was inspired by Idina Menzel.

Not how I would have went with Morrigan.

edit:  But of course, she did play the Wicked Witch in Broadway's Wicked.  With no extra makeup besides green.

@David

You don't leave much time for a reply, do you? I do understand the concept of effortless beauty, but I couldn't really see how it ties into the discussion, so thanks for the expansion.

I think I can see your point, though I would say that there's a difference between making a character attractive and "sexualising" them. Though of course you're right that sexualisation can certainly be popular with the fans - and I don't have a huge issue with it for many characters, the problem I'd have is when it seems to force a particular type of look on every character, which to be fair is more an ME thing rather than a DA thing. But Morrigan is if anything less blatantly sexualised here, so whatever.

But I don't think saying that you find the smile off-putting, or that you dislike the changes from the DA:O appearance conflicts with even a broad brush criticism of sexualisation.  Whatever the look is, if you get attached to the character then changes too it are going to be difficult to accept.

@Firky I agree that "enigmatic" is probably what they were going for. But the result comes off as just weird for me.

That depends a great deal on the basis for the complaints about sexualization. And let's not 'pretty-up' the comments in this thread too much. Many of them aren't comparing here to DA:O or talking about an uncanny valley, they're just calling her flat-out ugly.

I think she looks frails and doll like.
I can't say I hate it ,but character wise I think 1/the characters may have changed 2/when they redesign the characters they didn't suceed to capture their "personality."
For me Varric always had this very cheerful face , and his new model is not bad ...but it lacks something.
I like Cassandra but look at her eyes , and it's a bit ridiculous .they are way too catlike for a human.

It's probably all about getting used to it but....
I thing they wanted to keep a bit of the cartoonish quality while having model that looks quite "real"...
To be honest the first time I saw the trailer , it remind slightly of the puppet in Team America.
Shiny and a bit off.
One thing I really really really like is they tried to give very different faces , not too pretty .

Oh and Morrigan dress is fugly. But that's not a big deal .
By the time DA3 is out , I will get used to the new visuals and I would probably think they all look marvelous.
And to be honest I'm super happy that Morrigan is back.

Then thats a little sad. This thread hasn't been filled with bickering or bitter responses of how you are the devil for whatever reason. Infact I'd say most of it has been positive. Not everything on this forum is toxic waste David.

Did I say it was? There is indeed lots of positive stuff being said about the trailer. Insofar as character appearances go, however, it's still subjective nonsense. As it always is. =]

I quite like big lips. Just saying. Not sure why thin lips are considered a standard in beauty...

Well I definitely prefer Morrigan's new look I always thought she looked a little too clean in origins (baring in mind she spent her life living in a swamp with no bath). I can't wait to see what her son is like if you chose the dark ritual.

I got it! I know what's the problem! She's smiling!

I'm used to Morrigan constantly looking down on everybody with sarcastic jabs "you know nothing, warden".

I'm not a fan. Like at all.

I love Lulu's look (the "Black Mage Goth Chick" in the image above), but BW could never pull it off. They still can't even make decent-looking hands, or faces that don't look like they're made out of pizza dough. Maybe if they got some new blood, but until then, meh.

Morrigan's look was certainly a bit jarring when comparing to DA:O, but I like it! She definitely seems older and the new engine brings out her features more.

What new look? She's practically the same, the engine's just changed. Unless aging + longer hair + new outfit = new look. But she still has the same makeup, her design still has the same colour scheme, and she still has her iconic necklace, and in general she still looks the same, IMO.

So I personally think she looks about the same, which is to say flawless as usual. Can't wait to see (and hear -- Claudia Black is going to be her awesome self, I can tell!) more of her.

I don't get the fuss. Considering it's been nearly a decade since we've seen her, I don't think she looks significantly different.

Creepy and ugly are purely subjective.  However, after watching the response toward Morrigan by the audience that was viewing this trailer last night, I say you are in the majority.
