I really think it's the art direction ...cartoonish mixed with realism that gives the creeps.
It's like a human doll thing.
I was very creeped out the first time I saw the trailer .
You just need to get used to it, and it's not bad ....

I think that it is far too early to start off on a tangent about Morrigan's trailer appearance. If I had my druthers, they would skew the popular characters actual in-game appearance more towards Claudia Black, who voices Morrigan. She is one sexy lady, and I'm a huge fan of hers!

The trailer certainly bearded the lion by featuring two prominent returning DA2 characters, with Varric and Cassandra. I loved the tease about who the crossbow-wielding dwarf seemed to be grieving. Given that a Grey Warden sword figures into the scene, I'm guessing that the deceased might be the Hawke sibling, but that's what speculation can lead to in the absence of exact details.

What if they were going for "Sacred Ashes" Morrigan?

I never cared for her appearance in this trailer.

That picture looks like someone on meth.

Although it's probably just a result of the freeze-frame.

I liked it a lot. I felt that her physical changes told a story in a subtle but expressive manner. It's really amazing how BioWare is capable of creating such emotive and lifelike characters.

Exactly. She looked like a jonsed out methhead in that trailer. The CGI group is renound for this of stuff. Lets this is a continued trend with DA3 and the characters are familiar to what we know them from previously.

Ahhhh... ninj'd with the meth comment. How did that happen? Must be net lag or something.

... but two whole minutes?

I don't like her new look. Her look in Sacred Ashes was better.

I used a number of mods for faces in DA: O, including a modded face for Morrigan, and the trailer look is perfect for a 7-10 year older version of that face. I really like the look of the entire trailer for that matter.

It looks way better moving than it does in the stills you posted. I like it, and it still instantly recognisable.

I really like her.

I agree on the fact that character faces seem to be a little flaccid/gelatinous/squishy in the new engine tough.

In DA:O her boobs were each bigger than her head. 15 years later, I hope she has a pretty serious bra to keep them from banging her knees when she runs.

I thought she looked fine, was pleased just to hear her narrating and see her again. Looking forward to seeing some other returning characters in the snazzy new engine!

Remember that Morrigan is 15 years (?) older in DA:I than she was in DAO.

At the same time you shouldn't just discard everything thats said as nonsense though. Most posters in here with positive or negative responses agree that theres something not quite right with that jawline/mouth etc.

We absolutely will discard it, just as we discarded most of the nonsense posted about the other characters I mentioned.

That said, I imagine the looks of just about all the characters will undergo various amounts of tweaking as time goes on. Cassandra didn't look the same in initial DA2 trailers as she did in the game, as an example.

When you build games that have a very large portion dedicated to love interests and relationships, people will naturally take issue with the appearance of their potential and previous LI's. Just like in life while physical traits are not the be all and end all of attraction to others, they certainly apply and in games the same can apply so while you are not obliged to alter any characters appearance it does you no credit to claim it's nonsense when you put so much time and effort into setting up such a situation. You created games built around that so called nonsense and personal preference for what people define as attractive in the romanceable characters you created is part and parcel of that.

On side note your comment "Possibly people just like dissecting the appearance of female characters. I'm not sure. Maybe it's just something you get used to, or will never like simply because it's different."... No, just no since it comes across to me that your implying misogyny. People are taking issue, stating their preferences not just with female characters but with male characters too in speaking about their preferences for what they think is attractive however when you show more female characters than male then you only have yourself to blame for the potential focus being on the larger represented gender. Though there will always be a few bad apples, your generalisation is not appreciated.

I will state however that while I take some slight annoyance to the tone and wording of your comments mentioned, the principle behind you as the developer being free to create the characters you want and not always pandering to fans preferences; that I do support. Treating it as peoples preferences is fine but I think you could of put your points across much nicer and keep in mind you had a hand in fostering that type of discussion to begin with by way of large focus on romance in your games. Also that it is not the case of dissecting female characters, it is in reality people dissecting all characters shown even though the representation was heavily weighed towards female characters shown in the trailer not much in the way of male ones.

On topic of Morrigan...I think that when she talks her jaw and lips look distorted, especially her lips but when mouth is closed it looks good. I consider it a model, rendering issue that makes it look very odd and out of shape when applying movement but thats just a guess.

I think she looks great. Her jaw could be slightly less broad but wouldn't mind if they kept it as it is.

I would love to have her as a companion again, but if my warden went into the mirror with her, I don't want her to be romanceable...my Warden is currently in a relationship with her. I think she'd make a great Gandalf figure here....only more snarky and more.....Morrigan. Advisor, a selfish one, powerful, deadly, and so on.

Implying nothing. I'll state it outright: there is absolutely a mysoginistic element to the commentary on female characters. It's not specific to Morrigan, but has always been present when it comes to reveals on any female character in the game (and contrasts to the commentary on male characters)-- and I've been witness to enough of it over the years to make that observation. Yes, that is an opinion, but it is mine.

Does that mean one cannot comment on Morrigan without being a mysognist? Of course not. If you'd prefer to pretend the opposite, however, then I call BS.

Treating it as peoples preferences is fine but I think you could of put your points across much nicer and keep in mind you had a hand in fostering that type of discussion to begin with by way of large focus on romance in your games.

As you wish. Your opinions are all precious diamonds to us, absolutely, even the subjective ones. We will collect them in breathless anticipation, and view only the negative opinions as correct. Ideally, these will help us get the characters to the point where nobody could find any fault in their appearances whatsoever.

It won't be me doing that, of course, as I'm not part of the Art department, but don't let that stop you. Comment away. :)

Are people complaining that she is no longer wearing an outfit that is enchanted so it avoids the type of wardrobe malfunction that has befallen many a pop songstress?
