Culture has little to do with that. Men and women select their mates based on different characteristics because men and women play different roles in the process of producing offspring.

So what are you saying exactly? That men are somehow programmed to be hypercritical of a woman's looks and put unfair pressure on them to be perfect?

I don't like Morrigan's new look at all, although her hair probably has more to do with it than anything. Funny thing is that I've never heard that having a kid and aging ten years makes a woman "ugly." A little more...plump, maybe, but not always.

Accusations of misogyny? From a company that brought us Isabela? Are you serious? If they really want to show their non-misogynist side, maybe they should make Morrigan look like that cook in Eamon's estate in DAO. Now, that's a whole lot of woman to love...

I personally thought Cassandra's new look was great. She looked like the kind of woman I would want at my side in a battle, while still looking attractive, to me at least. If I feel that way about her model, but think Morrigan's is less-than-stellar, to say the least, I guess I must be a part-time misogynist. I'm sooo confused...

As you wish. Your opinions are all precious diamonds to us, absolutely, even the subjective ones. We will collect them in breathless anticipation, and view only the negative opinions as correct. Ideally, these will help us get the characters to the point where nobody could find any fault in their appearances whatsoever.

It won't be me doing that, of course, as I'm not part of the Art department, but don't let that stop you. Comment away. :)

:D

Okay. That was hilarious.

Morrigan is sooooooooooooo awesome, but the only aspect of her worth talking about is her appearance.

Gotcha.

We didn't really learn anything about her except her appearance in this trailer.

To be fair, Plaintiff wasn't the one who brought her personality into the picture.

I think David - and others - are entirely correct in saying that the brutally picking apart of appearance is something that happens disproportionally to women and female characters, and I have a hard time believing that sexism doesn't have some part of it. It doesn't have to be intentional to count as sexism.

Whether or not she's real, or has feelings to be hurt, is rather beside the point.

Nonsense. It is no different to saying this character looks odd, his jaw looks out of proportion and just not right.

Image IPB

Her facial polygon features to me is no different though less extreme. Her jaw and lips when mouth closed looks fine but when open it appears distorted to me and odd. From the curvature of the lips on the character model to the jawline when the mouth is opened. I am beginning to get concerned about lack of distinction to some people between what is real and what is a work of fiction.

Jesus Christ, my eyes just rolled so hard I think I tore my retina.

Characters are allowed to look odd. They are allowed to be ugly. They are allowed to have disfigurements (quelle horreur!).

Yes, Morrigan isn't real. That means you cannot bone her. Ergo, complaining that she's a butterface is stupid.

It seems like there are several different ways people are approaching this...

There are people commenting on whether or not she aesthetically pleasing (people going on to say "she should look like this because I find that more attractive" is a bit entitled, really). There are people commenting on whether she resembles her DA:O self (which is valid, because it is simply comparing to an established look). Then there are people commenting on the technical aspects of her looks (the way her mouth moves, for example). This is just how I see it, and each perspective should be approached differently when it comes to criticism of someone's comment. IMO

I don't get it, people.

Morrigan looks a bit different, but in a very positive way. She's much more realistic and they worked really hard to make her look like that. If you can do better, then please start creating your own games. You had a bit different image of her in your mind? It's devastating, how could they give her different lips than you imagined? This ruins the character!

Why do you care so much about her looks? She's still herself, only tweaked here and there and this is what really matters. And dissecting the look of each and every female character in that way (her jaw is too square, her lips too wide- she's ugly, give me someone that looks like a super- model) is a bit misogynic.

I really like both her and Cassandra in the trailer, hope they'll look like that in game.

Nobody was arguing or ****in crazily about how she looks until some people arrived. Was mostly fair discussion for 18 or so pages.

Edited the OP anyway.

saw some people asking about her dress.
I also don't have a problem with how any of them look.

I think they all looked good.
Morrigan still looks like Morrigan.
They all still resemble how they looked originally.

I understand the Cassandra jaw thing, but I think that's just the clip.
Even if it isn't, still looks great.

Makes me wonder how we can make the inquisitor look!

Humans are genetically programmed to be critical of appearance. Especially with regards to attraction of others and in the sense of romanceable characters this carries over. This goes for both genders equally. Bioware have created a situation where romance and love interests play a large role in their games, to whine about the fact people attach a desire for attractive traits in the characters their one will romance serves no purpose. Even though that is not the issue I mentioned with what I considered to be the problem with Morrigans character model, it is a valid topic of discussion for others who wish to do so. While some take it too far, that is not the case for all yet all are berated for the actions of the few.

There is no "new look". They look the same, just more detailed.

Yes, but the scrutiny on female characters as a whole is greater than that of male characters. This is what David was talking about, and it is true.

Varric and Cassandra look good, simply because the faces seem more "real" and not some sort of "plastic" like with DA II's engine.
I liked Origins Morrigan more, but given the amount of time that passed between Origins and Inquisition, her face seems to fit.

j/k, although I wasn't a big fan of the changes at first, but yeah, I thought they all look great when compared to DA2's graphic.

Varric looks younger, somehow. And needs more chin.

Cassandra I quite like, though that may be because I wasn't all that attached to her previous appearance - it was just rather generic DA2 NPCish.

Part of a day later, they still all look fine to me. I expect they will continue to look fine to me throughout the week, probably month, and quite possibly through summer and into fall.

Or until they do a new iteration, at which point I will revise my opinion based on the new information.

I don't think that aging is really a good explanation for the change in her face either. She's now probably in her mid- or end-thirties. As far as I know the period from your twenties to your thirties isn't one in which your face already starts sagging, drastically changes shape, or whatever. In DAO, Morrigan had a very oval facial shape. In the trailer it's more square, with a pointy chin hanging underneath. Perhaps that could be achieved by a considerable weight loss, leading to thinning of the face, but that still doesn't explain how her jaw bone actually got broader. Never heard of aging doing that.

She doesn't look older to me anyway. Different than DAO =/= older. Her skin is still absent wrinkles. Only difference are the moles/beauty marks. They usually don't spawn with age either. Aging spots do (or whatever you call them in English), but I believe you see those more often on the hands and arms, and when you're 40 at most that's rather young to get those...

Pretty much my opinion too^

Don't like Morrigan's dress though.
