So now every re-design needs in-game justification?

I actually thought that she looks more real. I have always found her skull shape doesn't make sense in DAO.

I don't like Morrigan's new look at all, although her hair probably has more to do with it than anything. Funny thing is that I've never heard that having a kid and aging ten years makes a woman "ugly." A little more...plump, maybe, but not always.

I don't think that aging is really a good explanation for the change in her face either. She's now probably in her mid- or end-thirties. As far as I know the period from your twenties to your thirties isn't one in which your face already starts sagging, drastically changes shape, or whatever. In DAO, Morrigan had a very oval facial shape. In the trailer it's more square, with a pointy chin hanging underneath. Perhaps that could be achieved by a considerable weight loss, leading to thinning of the face, but that still doesn't explain how her jaw bone actually got broader. Never heard of aging doing that.

She doesn't look older to me anyway. Different than DAO =/= older. Her skin is still absent wrinkles. Only difference are the moles/beauty marks. They usually don't spawn with age either. Aging spots do (or whatever you call them in English), but I believe you see those more often on the hands and arms, and when you're 40 at most that's rather young to get those...

She should have some wrinkles IMO (and subjectively due to her age).  Imagine how that would go over, though.
The beauty mark could be fake, due to emulating Orlesian fashion. Seems like something Orlesians would do.

Cassandra looks too much like Fem Hawke. I was all happy Hawke was back again then saw it was Cassandra -.-
Varric looks good. Alistair and Zevran and Anders will look yummy with this new engine

I didn't care for the cartoonish style of DA2 at all, so I love the new style 1000 times more. I actually like Cassandra's new look better, she's tough looking, as though she's been through hell and back. Morrigan looks like Morrigan only better. Varrik is the only one that looks "off" to me. Then again, it just may be the circumstances. We've never seen him in despair.

So what are you saying exactly? That men are somehow programmed to be hypercritical of a woman's looks and put unfair pressure on them to be perfect

Men are programmed to be critical of women's looks and women are programmed to be critical of men's looks (well, the heterosexuals among them are). On average, however, men value looks far more in comparison to other attractive traits. The reasons for this are mostly not cultural. Women's looks being -in general- under far more scrutiny than men's looks isn't part of "the patriarchy", it's part of human biology.

I was pleased with the new looks of the character, and I think that Varric and Cassandra's transition from DAII to DA:I looks better than the DAO/DAA characters' transition to their appearances in Kirkwall. I thought Morrigan looked absolutely gorgeous in the trailer, and Cassandra's tweaked hairstyle and the scars on her face fits her well.

I did a short double-take when I saw Varric, but when viewing the trailer again it mostly just looks like he lost some weight and that's probably because he has a lot more to do than when he used to hang out with Hawke. ;)

Very very tough to tell with the brief snippets we have seen. I like Varric, Morrigan is pretty good. Cassandra looks a bit battled hardened.

I'm not saying that looks are not important. Facial symmetry is an indicator of good genes etc, etc. Yeah I agree with this to a certain extent, but culture especially *modern* culture has a huge role in shaping how men view women, and how they are "supposed" to view them.
The bolded is your opinion and I don't agree with.

Varric looks amazing, Morrigan is recognizable, and Cassandra looks a little different but still pretty.

Morrigan is still an ugly slag who needs to have her ovaries ripped out. Fetid slime.

I just glad that Bioware decide to go with Cassandra from DA2 not DOTS.

Other way around. People here are discussing the justification why they would like to see a change, not demand but expressing a dislike of something and giving their justifications why. Whether or not Bioware listen and do anything based on those justifications is upto them and rightly so but to so imply all those who express a desire for improvement or change are mostly or all mysoganists using broad generalisations which is why I took issue with David's comment.

Given your comment...

"Characters are allowed to look odd. They are allowed to be ugly. They are allowed to have disfigurements (quelle horreur!).
Yes, Morrigan isn't real. That means you cannot bone her. Ergo, complaining that she's a butterface is stupid."

Do you also spend as much time on feminist articles complaining at the author for their complaints about the appearance of a female characters in a videogame or are you just being hypocritical given your excuse on here.

Alas, for two of them, the ship has probably sailed (and sunk). Salt, wound, and all that sort of things. How I would love to see Anders and Zevran again rendered with Frosbite (the engine. Don't want them all blackened and gangrenish)

--

Cassandra, Varric and Morrigan all look fine. Very fine, even. I'd no problem recognizing them, I didn't recoil in horror as I did for one of the aforementioned beloved character, and I even found the new rendition to have "substance". Morrigan might not be as perfectly beautiful, but she's way more... I don't know... real? Attractive? Interesting? (I'm certainly not going to take precise measurements and perform a phrenological analysis to make my point, though.)

Usually, we've got the concept art, which looks detailed and wonderful, and then in-game rendition which looks generally quite different. With this, it was like the concept art had almost made its way directly into the game.
And Claudia Black's voice is an instant win anyway

Also, loved the dress.

To be honest, when I first saw them I had to pause and glare at them. They look so strange-in a good way however! If the game looks even remotely like this...I will spend hours on character customization ...(Better be decent haircuts though).

PS: You don't actually understand the word 'hypocrisy'. Criticizing a character's design for being "ugly" is not at all the same as criticizing it for reinforcing negative stereotypes or offensive ideals.

Implying nothing. I'll state it outright: there is absolutely a mysoginistic element to the commentary on female characters. It's not specific to Morrigan, but has always been present when it comes to reveals on any female character in the game (and contrasts to the commentary on male characters)-- and I've been witness to enough of it over the years to make that observation. Yes, that is an opinion, but it is mine.

Does that mean one cannot comment on Morrigan without being a mysognist? Of course not. If you'd prefer to pretend the opposite, however, then I call BS.

You, my good sir, are awesome, and this comment is awesome and 120% spot-on! Thank you.

@Kelgair: Oh, I thought dawn push was some photography term. Consider my deference rescinded!

Dunno, I wasn't "advocating" anything, just trying to put a name to the slight stylized vibe I get out of some of the images. Not just the dawn push scene. I don't think I'm just seeing things.

Though I would be totally cool with cel shaded artwork. Wind Waker was an amazing game and will be even more amazing in HD.

Apparently you need an example where the sun in the background doesn't do sh** for your cel-shaded desires. maybe?

Oh, and next time you're not "advocating something", I suggest you don't post.

Wow, what the hell is your problem? I'll post whatever I feel like, thanks.

Bioware:

- Creates some of the most sexist games in the industry, always emphasising muscular, chisel-jawed men and half-naked volumptious women. Never forgets to place unessesary romance options and sex scenes in there!

- Goes on to bash its own fans for being misogynistic for criticising their poor work.

LOGIC! B)
