I've watched the trailer several times over and really let it sink in and I have to say: I absolutely love the new appearance of the characters.

One of the major drawbacks for the previous Dragon Age games was that they rarely 'wowed' me visually, if ever. I loved the concept art but It felt like it never translated right into the 3D models, but the teaser trailer looks like they have finally managed to make the awesome concept art equally awesome in 3D.

I'll have to be blunt and say that my first thought when I saw the new trailer was 'Wow- if thats Varric he's suddenly become really hot'. I really like the more rugged look it gives him and Cassandra, doing what the random blood spatter never could: Making it look like they really are fighting a long, drawn-out conflict. I really am glad that we have a badass female warrior as the companion in focus this time, hopefully even as the primary female LI.

Morrigan's update in particular really impressed me, not because she looks similar to her previous model but because she looked like I'd always imagined her too. I always felt her in-game model in orgins didn't fit her personality or voice perfectly, and was more 'generically attractive' than 'sexy witch', but this new appearance fits the latter perfectly. That Morrigan is the cold and cynical heartless shrew that I fell in love with in the first game.

It's made me excited about the visuals, in particular the character visuals- which isn't something I expected a Dragon Age game to do.

So now every re-design needs in-game justification?

Forgive me for attempting to make sense of the developers' creative whims.:? Though indeed there seems to be no point in doing so. Qunari seems to have gotten twice as broad again as well, both in shoulders' width and horn size, and who knows what they'll do with the elves this time. I guess that last one can only be an improvement at least.=]

Wonderful.

I think they all three look good. Yesterday I was disappointed in how Cassandra looked and Morrigan I was kind of meh on. But a ay later, I feel overall all three look good. My only complaint is the beauty mark Morrigan has now.

The qunari looked amazing as did Varric. I think really Dragon Age is about to blow some people. But we'll see how it really looks in engine

Thane is a frog man. (I have nothing against him, I like him as a character) not a human male. Also, I don't see anything sexualized about him.
However, the female LI's in Mass effect are a totally different story.

I am referring to this which talks about Thane's design being at least partially based on him being physically appealing to female devs in anticipation of him being an LI.

If they really wanted him to be appealing to females, I would think that they wouldn't have made him a frog man.
Although, since many females love him as an LI, it just reinforces the point that a man's looks don't matter, he can still get the girl in the end.
The female LI's however are almost all human, skantily clad, and have their asses all over the screen.
You don't see any non human female LI's in mass effect whose physical appearance isn't designed to be beautiful first and foremost.
The reason why Turian women didn't exist until the Omega DLC was because the designers couldn't figure out a way to make them "Sexy."

I'm sorry i'm lost, so you're saying that we are all pigs included the male devs that made 'em that way in the first place? But we (users) are also mysoginsit cuz we give our subjective opinion about Morrigan's look?

*Shrugs*

The new graphics look smooth and sharp, and from what little we get to see, it seems we're back to a more desaturated feel, which suits me (wasn't fond of ]['s yellow flames, and improbably bright hair and eye colours).

Now if I was to nitpick I do have to say Varric's strangely low hairline kind of clashes with all that realism ; I don't know how much time has passed between ][ and DAI so I'm not saying it should be higher than it was in ][, but at least it should remain where it was ! Just kind of an essential part of his trademark cool-weathered-dwarf appeal (otherwise well reflected by his new look, notably his face). Love the scarf too (is it made of chest hair ?).

Nothing remotely sexist to say about the other two I'm afraid. Well, Cass looked healthier before maybe, but then again that might be due to her not-having-to-deal-with-crazy-stuff-falling-from-the-sky then I suppose. Morrigan's a tough one... because her face didn't look that realistic to begin with in Origins, yet we've all grown accustomed to it. Maybe something yet a tad closer ? Somehow ? She strikes me as less tall now.

Oh and I haven't posted here in a long while so hello BSN Image IPB

Well, they did make it the default ending when not importing a DAO save into DA2...

Yup and then they killed him.

But that was another department so not fair harassing DA devs and writers about it

This is true enough.  I'm merely pointing out the the precedent exists and it's not sexist when devs do it.  It's just people pointing out what they find physically appealing.

Feeling entitled to get exactly what you want is a whole other thing.  I just mean that not liking a design and even being disgusted by it doesn't make you misogynist.

I definitely prefer DA2 Cassandra. The cheekbones in the trailer seem a bit off to me.

Morrigan looks good (aside from the hair in her eye)  She appears to be dressed in Orlesian fashion, which would explain the dress and beauty mark.

Cassandra looks good.  Well.  Given she's in the middle of a war.

Hence the qualifier 'almost'.

I'm willing to bet money that the character designers don't spend nearly as much time thinking about a character's appearance as this forum does complaining about it.

There are less designers than there are fans on here, so that comment is irrelevant. The two are not comparable in the sense of time a few developers spend on deciding the appearance compared to the time spent by hundreds maybe thousands of fans on here. If two developers decide the appearance and spend two hours each on it, if there is five fans discussing it for equal amount of time each then of course more time will be spent by the fans than the developers.

I like how She looks now, She better be a permanent companion and not just a 20 sec cameo
also am happy to see Varric will return
overall i like the more "realistic" design of the characters,
just did not like the DA2 look at all
now all that remains is Leliana, Alistair and Flemeth's reveal (if it's not the Dragon already) but i expect it won't happen anytime soon

For the most part they look fine. However, Varric 's appearance is the only one that really caught my attention, but it's not necessarily bad, just different.

Characters generally look good. Can't see much wrong with Varric.
Not sure about Cassandra's eyebrows change and not sure about Morrigan's mouth.
They'll probably grow on me once i get used to the changes.

If they don't bring Alistair into this game and have him talk with Morrigan, then I will unleash my fan rage. The two are like ying and yang. To not rekindle that humor that was present in DAO would be a wasted opportunity.

They all look fine to me. Looks like they really tried to make Verric look attractive, so I expect him to be a LI. They also toned down Morrigan's sex appeal, so she's probably romantically off-limits. Probably not even a companion. Cassandra looks a little roughed-up, but otherwise good. Probably a LI.

I don't like Bayonetta's new look in Bayonetta 2, though. So it's not like I'm just easy to please.

For all its worth, I liked how people turned out. Cassandra? I'm seeing no difference. Varric? It's a war and he's sad and tired. Morrgian? She has spent like 10 years in god knows where.
