I do wonder if they have thoroughly thought the ban on pm's to anyone who is not on your friends list, through properly. So now I am expected to embarass people publicly when they make a mistake setting their permissions on the projects page. So now there are questions that won't be asked because you can't pm somebody. So now you can't sound someone out in private on a variety of things.

I realise that the moderators may have been recieving messages that were not going by the proper channels but surely having a standard message that they could send while refusing to deal with the pm'd request would have worked. Surely posting a stickied, only updatable by moderators, thread on each section of these boards spelling out the proper procedures would have been better. To date I have seen no such thread, so obviously some people are going to take the only route they can think of because they don't know the proper channels. In the mean time we are to be "punished". Thanks for that.

I find this change of moderation procedures strange as well, since the last I checked (a few months ago), moderators were specifically telling people to PM them rather than use the report button. I can understand why they might want to change that if the report button is working as intended now, but I find it a bit cruel to restrict PMs so heavily just to make a point...

Okay, repeating my gripe over here:

It just goes to show that we can't depend on anything staying around or staying the same if it is still around. These forums themselves could be axed at any time, or at least the ones we care about.

Another consequence... For a long time I've advocated contacting me here to address problems with the Vault's email and messaging problems. If you have a problem contact me and I'll fix it.

Now it's "If you have a problem, friend me, *then* contact me..." Or contact me on the new Vault or email me.
There are still a lot of ways to contact people who are really willing to help. But not through BSN. Not quietly, discreetly. :-(
