I totally thought Shale was ambiguously gay, too - you're not the only one. Especially when she reveals her fondness for bling.

You should try playing as a Dwarf female. I did that recently, and was surprised at how much Shale seemed to want to be her BFF.

LOL. EXACTLY.

I did too even though I already knew she was a woman. >.< (I was reading the wiki before I got the game and the damn thing kept calling her "her" and "she" even though I didn't want spoilers -.-")

But now when I hear her I just think she sounds like an older British woman, lol

She makes me think of an older British woman who is a heavy smoker, now.  Shale, Alistair and Wynne were my active companions for most of my first play-through. Shale is still one of my favouritest characters from DA:O.

I even have the Shale t-shirt! Even though I would prefer all new companions I would definitely not mind seeing Shale again. There are so many different ways you can meet her again: the Deep Roads, Tevinter, or Orlais. In fact Shale is probably the one character you might logically meet again. Come to think of it, I would love to see Shale and Varric.
